7-Eleven Inc

HR Recruiting Intern

May - August 2019 • Clairton, PA

What I liked

I felt as though I was a real employee at this company. I was trained thoroughly, all of my questions were answered, and I felt as though I was respected and valued.

What I wish was different

I think that within the company itself, the recruiting staff had a difficult time finding enough applicants to recruit, which created a stressful environment for workers.

Advice

While this internship was not directly related to what I am studying (I am communications and the internship was HR) I still learned a lot about myself and what I want to do with my future. I think stepping outside of the box for this internship gave me a valuable experience and a new set of skills I would not have had otherwise.

Human Resources Intern

May 2019 • Warren, MI

What I liked

The ability to work first hand with an HR advisor and recruiting team. Everyone I worked with was great and welcomed me to the team with open arms. The autonomy that was given to me to make decisions and interview candidates. I enjoyed seeing the work I put in on reports and databases be used in meetings to explain overall company goals. I learned a lot because I was always doing something new each day which excited me.

What I wish was different

More time learning the business side of Speedway. I spent most of my time strictly within HR functions.

Advice

An internship experience in my field of study was more beneficial to my long term career growth than any single class was. Getting that real world experience is unmatched

HR Intern

June - August 2019 • Albany, NY

What I liked

I was able to learn a lot about the company and what role HR plays in it. The people I interacted with were all very friendly and always willing to help and teach me new things. They really accepted me in to the department like I was family and made me comfortable which I was very appreciative of. They also really tried to tailor the experience to be relevant to what my major is in order to help me get more out of the whole experience.

What I wish was different

It was the first year for Speedway to recruit HR Interns so the schedule was a little up in the air. You really had to go with the flow. I was fine with it, but it would have been nice to have a pretty set schedule at the beginning.

Advice

I would say that this doesn't apply to all of Speedway. The region that I was in provided me with this amazing experience. However, Speedway is a good company to work for and they always try to take care of their employees in the best way possible.

What I liked

The kindness of my co-workers and customers

Advice

The best way to past time is by working. Also, relate with customers, talk to them, as they do appreciate your kindness and pay you back by bringing you a smile when you see them coming in.
