Booz Allen Hamilton Inc

Cyber Strategy Intern

June - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The way that the Summer Games Program is set up is really neat and if you get a cool project it is a really rewarding Summer. The team you are placed with can really use your specfic skill set and you can feel like you are actually making a difference. There were lots of opportunities to network and it was extremely encouraged.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a way to select your project or rank in preference which project you would like to work on.

Advice

Be flexible and network a lot. Work hard and show what you are capable of.

Summer Games Intern

June - August 2018 • Norfolk, VA

What I liked

Real Life experience challenging project working with other interns

What I wish was different

Because it is a government management consulting agency, you can't really understand what people are doing that work their full time. This part I was disappointed in however you cannot really fix this problem

Summer Games Intern

June - August 2018 • Norfolk, VA

What I liked

It was a lot of fun, met a lot of great people. Taught myself a lot and learnt a lot of how to deal with people. Spent 10 weeks working with a team of not only developers was a wicked experience

What I wish was different

More people who were able to mentor me about game design, and who were connected with the game industry.

Advice

People who know nothing about coding literally know NOTHING about how coding works. Also, communication with such people (and even fellow developers) are incredibly important.

Software Developer Intern

June - August 2018 • Rockville, MD

What I liked

I got to build software that was important. We rewrote the navies communication system from the ground up and it is being implemented across the entire fleet now.

What I wish was different

Not much. I loved it.

Advice

Get internships. Do projects. Don't reily on simply what gcc requires you to do. That is not good enough. Make the extra effort to show companies that you care about your profession by persueing it outside of normal school hours.

Everyone that I worked with either directly or indirectly was extremely helpful and cared about making the experience worthwhile. I was given tasks that would be seen and used by clients and was able to expand on the knowledge and skills I already had.

What I wish was different

I overall loved my experience with Booz and wouldn't have changed anything

Advice

Summer Games Intern

June - August 2018 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

A very supportive learning environment with a heavy emphasis on collaboration. I had the opportunity to work on an intensive project with a team of interns and met with senior leadership on a regular basis. I really liked how the internship wasn't catered to a specific major and welcomed students from any background.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Good speaking and presentation skills are almost essential to any job today. Being able to present your work in a confident, clear manner will go a long way.

Cybersecurity Consulting Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

It was a very hands on experience. Each team of 5 interns was given their own project for the summer, and we got to experience both soft and hard skills related to cybersecurity consulting.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a bit more guidance throughout the summer. My bosses were often traveling for clients.

Advice

Ask a lot of questions, and if you don't have the resources you need ask for them early in the internship. We only got an AWS instance towards the end and weren't even able to use it.

Summer Games Intern

June - August 2021 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I loved how everything was team-based. Your project involves a group of 4 interns with 1-2 team leads from the firm. You are tasked with a problem at the beginning of the ten weeks and asked to solve it, create a slide deck, and present your solutions to executives at the firm.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more direction from our team leads at the beginning. We were told it is up to us what we want to do, how/when to meet, what direction to go in, etc. The team leads don't give you a lot to go off of and make it so that you have complete freedom to do whatever you want.

Advice

Make the most of it. Everyone at the firm is willing to speak with you if you are interested. Try to meet someone new every day or at least set up a networking call every week!
