Very nice working conditions, friendly atmosphere. Managers were very helpful and I always felt like I belonged and my work had meaning.
What I wish was different
The process to start working was a bit tedious, a lot of first time sign-ons and waiting for access to the systems they use for work. It took a week or two of waiting before any real work can be done but after that, it was smooth sailing
Advice
Always ask for more work. When you are done with whatever task, ask if there is anything you can help out with. They are usually busy with many projects at a time so helping out wherever you can will make their lives easier and your day to day work more satisfying.

Military Engines Intern
May - August 2021 • East Hartford, CT
What I liked
Pratt & Whitney has a fantastic company culture, as well as internship program. There were many events offered throughout the summer to help enhance my intern experience. I was matched with a mentor with whom I met with virtually biweekly.
What I wish was different
The entirely remote nature of this internship was extremely difficult. While I understand that it was necessary due to COVID-19, it seems as though Pratt & Whitney is moving toward an "Office of the Future" concept, which is essentially a hybrid model. While I can understand the benefits of this for full-time employees, it was very difficult to adapt to an entirely remote experience. It was difficult to feel as though you were part of the team and asking simple questions became a longer process than it would have been in person, leading me to ask less questions than I should have.
Advice
Ask questions. I know everyone says this, but I wish I would've truly listened. Find someone within your department that you feel comfortable asking anything and make a list to discuss at least once a week. Also keep a list of acronyms. Any time you hear one you're unfamiliar with, write it down and find out what it means. You'll be entirely lost if you don't learn acronyms!

Manufacturing Engineering Intern
May - August 2019 • North Berwick, ME
What I liked
I enjoyed working in a fast paced environment that valued my input. I also liked how my supervisor would put me into jobs that weren't busy work and had a real effect on the company operation. Finally, I enjoyed actually being able to work with a physical process instead of sitting behind a computer all day.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more time with the company because I was only familiar with the company operations and processes after about 6 weeks of working. This meant that only about 4 weeks of my work was truly productive without a learning curve.
Advice
If you are working in a manufacturing industry, go out to the production floor and actually speak with the operators running the machines. They are likely more familiar with the process than you are and may be able to shed some light on what is happening to disrupt your process. It helps to have both an engineering perspective on the problem and an operational perspective because you don't want to implement a solution that isn't realistic for the operators themselves.
