Mortgage Banker

May - October 2018 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

Quicken Loans has an exellent work environment and the people who work there are great! They truly give you everything you need to be successful, from training to free slushies in the break rooms.

What I wish was different

The hours are brutal. I never worked less than 60 hours a week as a banker. Six or seven days a week was typical for this position.

Advice

Be honest with your self before taking a position as a banker. This is 100% a sales job you will need to talk to clients for hours every day and sell them on the largest financial transaction of their lives. You will hear 98% of the time and yes 2% of the time from clients. If you think you can thrive in that environment this job is a winning lottery ticket.

Mortgage Operations Summer Intern

May - September 2017 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

This was my 3rd summer at Quicken, so I love the culture. This internship particularly was great in that I grew on the phones calling agents all Summer, learning their mortgage platform, and learning about something I didn't know much about...insurance! At Quicken you also have the opportunity to get bonuses, volunteer, learn the professional world, and do things outside your internship in classes that you still get paid for! No matter the internship here, if you like a laid-back, but inclusive culture, Quicken is the best place for you.

What I wish was different

For me the 9-6 hours go too late for me, but really if you want the overtime they give to you. Also, other leaders are different and allow you to work through lunch and change up your hours. Really, it's only for a Summer, but it's not much to complain about.

Advice

Be enthusiastic and ready to try new things cause Quicken allows you to do more than push paper.

Marketing Coordinator

May - August 2017 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

My internship experience at Quicken Loans is, and always has been, AMAZING! The internship experience is different than most others. Interns at the Quicken Loans Family of Companies are treated as full-time team members. We are a Family of “flat” companies, where interns are expected to speak-up, share their ideas and opinions, and bring input to the table! The interns at the Quicken Loans Family of Companies are never asked to get coffee or make copies, they are valued as much as the full-time team members, and are looked at as the owners of the fresh-perspective.

What I wish was different

I don't think I would change anything. The entire internship program at the Quicken Loans Family of Companies is hands-on, real-life experience. It is fun and an awesome opportunity!

Advice

I would definitely recommend the Quicken Loans Family of Companies Internship Program to all of my fellow business students. Quicken Loans is ranked as one of the Top 10 Companies to work for by Forbes, and when you’re there, you are shown why that is! One piece of advice I would share with a future intern is to take advantage of the opportunity. Never be afraid to speak up - make yourself known!

Project Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed the responsibility I was given early on in my time in the company. It's a serious internship program that allowed me to draft a company wide cyber security policty with the legal department, conduct a competitive analysis and project manage a group of 7.

What I wish was different

I wished I had been a bit closer to the product in product management, althought this didn't exist at the company at the time.

Advice

I highly recommend taking a project management internship, many of the skills are applicable to product maagement and being a founder. Taking a product management internship is only rewarding at a very small startup in my expertience.
