What I liked

I found the weekly training sessions leading up to the internship as well as the week dedicated to training at the start of the internship incredibly helpful, and as I began to assume responsibilities, I felt well-equipped to do so. The overall team culture was great and fostered an environment in which every intern wanted others to succeed. Through client meetings and in-depth company analyses, I gained real-world experience that I am eager to apply to my future career. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Tuck Advisors and would recommend this opportunity to everyone.

What I wish was different

Advice

Being considerate is incredibly important, and each task completed should be done with attention to detail and care. In addition, don’t be afraid to ask questions or have another intern look over your work – you will only benefit from it!

Fall Analyst

What I liked

The training was amazing. A month prior to the internship there was training, which allowed the team to hit the ground running on the first day. The internship is laid out very well and the work is impactful. The team dynamic of the internship is also great and it allows you to learn intangible skills such as teamwork and communication skills. If you are interested in IB, would like to learn about the whole M&A process, and actually be part of it, this is an excellent opportunity.

What I wish was different

Advice

Learn the intangibles. Overcommunicate and work well with the team. The more you put in the more you get out.

What I liked

I was surprised by the variety and depth of work I was tasked with throughout the internship. (Lots of) emailing, getting on client calls, building financial models, making decks, looking over financials - everything you do here builds relevant skills for for future internships, in finance or otherwise. I would say this is a great first internship to explore whether banking is for you - even if it isn't, you'll come away having learned something valuable.

Advice

Be clear about the tasks you're interested in. Speak up and you'll get to do the work you want to do.

What I liked

I had the best experience with this company. The boutique bank is small; you get the privilege of talking with the founder and managing director every single day. Simply listening to them talk and share their opinions on the industry and clients could have taught me indispensable information, but they went beyond this; both individuals are so accommodating of questions and curiosities that they have created the strongest culture of positivity, respect, and growth. It is a space that makes you want to work harder, and support your coworkers. I not only learned so much about the industry, but found myself wanting to tackle projects and responsibilities that would have intimidated me before. I gained real time experience with face to face client meeting, was walked through complicated financial models, and gained insight and relationships I would have never had to opportunity to have before working here. I genuinely had the best experience with this company and could not recommend it more.

What I wish was different

No cons. I can only speak of great things. The workload can be time consuming, but it is only representative of the success of the company and interns as a whole.

What I liked

I enjoyed the ability to pursue the type of work I was interested in and learn a lot of interpersonal professional skills from the Managing Directors, both of whom are very qualified and willing to help us. The work we did was critical to the functioning of the firm and it meant there was an incentive to do well and improve quickly.

What I wish was different

Advice

You get out what you put in at Tuck. Always be proactive in looking for ways to help grow the firm (it's growing quickly) and learn more.

What I wish was different

Wish I could be involved with every phase of the M&A process -- what you do during the internship depends on where we are with this project, you will be involved with 3 months/10 month project.

What I liked

I really appreciate the emphasis on accountability, efficiency, and collaboration at Tuck Advisors. From early on, interns are taken through a meticulous training program led by current analysts so that you hit the ground sprinting upon your start date. I was instantly impressed by the sense of camaraderie at Tuck - everyone wants to make the Analyst next to them better. Culture is extremely important in a field as rigorous as Investment Banking, and it's clearly a priority on the Tuck team.

What I wish was different

Advice

I am a history major who hadn't ever really thought about going into Finance, but this experience has made me completely rethink my path. Mentorship is second nature at Tuck, so even without as much Econ background as my peers, I haven't felt a step behind. With that said, you definitely do put in what you get out: be curious, ask questions, always be two steps ahead, communicate, be on time, be prepared... overall - it's important to be a good teammate, you have a lot of responsibility very early on!

What I liked

The internship began with a month long training period, which really helped prepare me with everything I needed to be successful and get as much out of the opportunity as possible. I also loved the mentorship program-- you'll get paired with an analyst from the previous cohort who helps answer any questions you have. As an analyst at Tuck Advisors, you are given as much responsibility as you want, so you can learn an incredible amount of information about the industry.

What I wish was different

Advice

Communication is an extremely important skill to have, so practice over-communicating during this internship-- it makes everything smoother. Secondly, don't be afraid to ask questions, since it's one of the best ways to learn and grow.
