Year-Round Accounting Intern

November 2019 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I love learning about the different aspects of the railroad industry as a whole and, more specifically, how Union Pacific contributes to the country's economy. So far, the overall experience has been interesting.

What I wish was different

I think it would be nice if there was more interaction with other interns, even if it's just those on the same floor.

Operations Management Intern

June - September 2019 • Roseville, CA

What I liked

The mix of office and field work, as well as the ability to work on both short and long-term projects. The short-term projects provided great exposure to the different operations of the railroad, while the long-term projects allowed me to see the impact of the management team's work over time. Being responsible for my own projects

What I wish was different

I would occasionally run out of work to do, but it was very well organized otherwise.

Advice

Don't be afraid to branch out and try new things. If I expressed an interest in learning about something, a real effort was made to help me achieve that. Every time I toured a mechanical shop or rode on a train, people were always happy to take time out of their day to explain their work to me. The people at Union Pacific know that an internship is a is a learning opportunity and strive to balance day-to-day work with opportunities for professional growth.
