What I liked

The direct interactions with patients and customers when handling prescriptions or other basic clinical tasks, as well as the exposure to real world issues and vulnerable populations .

What I wish was different

Certified Pharmacy Technician

June 2018 • Wayzata, MN

What I liked

I liked the busy work environment. There was always something I could be doing. I also liked that there were a variety of tasks, including customer service, maintenance of inventory, and filling prescriptions. This allowed me to rotate tasks, so I didn’t get stuck in one role.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more flexibility with hours. The store I worked at was short on employees, so I ended up working a lot more than I initially intended.

Advice

You have to learn to be very patient with customers and with the insurance process because there are a lot of steps that go into providing patients with the right medication at the best price.

Supply Chain Intern

June - August 2018 • Windsor, WI

What I liked

They gave us a 10 - week schedule of the activities listed for that week. So the first week we did training, the second was learning about our project, etc. The past internships I've had didn't have much structure to it, so this was different. I suppose this internship taught me to be self-sufficient, meaning that there wasn't much hand holding. It also taught me to ask a lot of questions, but to ask really good ones because everyone is already busy with their own work. At the end of the internship, all the interns from around the US traveled to headquarters in Chicago and we gave a presentation of our project. They took care of us pretty nicely, we went to a barcade, had happy hour at the hotel. It was nice.

What I wish was different

Our project was challenging. A bit too challenging, I think. They gave us a problem to tackle that they've been facing in that distribution center for over 15 years. I just wish that they gave us a project that was mentally stimulating but actually solvable in 10 weeks. Hopefully for future interns, they'll give them a less complex intern project.

Advice

If you're used to the typical office internship and you like that sort of work, don't intern here. You'll definitely get your hands dirty and make you step outside of your comfort zone. As an industrial engineering major, I wanted to get floor experience and some work in continuous improvement, and I got exactly what I needed from this internship.
