Soils Field Inspector

 

GeoTek is currently seeking Soils Inspectors to join our Las Vegas, NV office

SUMMARY:

Individuals will be expected to perform routine field test and collects samples. Responsible for performing work using proper procedures and accurate computations and preparing daily reports detailing activities. Prepares draft reports on test performed for review by supervisor.

Supervisor: Field Supervisor/Manager Direct Supervisory

Responsibility: None

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Operate in a safety sensitive position (Construction site), around heavy machinery with limited supervision.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain various field certifications (through written and performance-based testing) as required by jurisdictional requirements to meet position requirements.
  • Effectively communicate with Supervisor and Dispatch to obtain daily work assignments.
  • Conducts various field test tests and inspections on construction sites.
  • Manipulates various field equipment to perform routine testing, inspection, and sample collection including but not limited to nuclear gauge, shovel, sledgehammer.
  • Perform physical testing, examinations, interpretations, and evaluations for a variety of residential and commercial projects.
  • Navigate uneven terrain of constructions sites, including entering and exiting trenches with the use of a ladder.
  • Prepares daily data reports of testing and inspection.
  • Competent in the performance of all tests and inspections assignment
  • Inform field representatives of observation and test results.
  • Commute to and from job sites (1-2 hours of daily drive time)
  • Obtains proper field authorizations are signed by the client when required or when work beyond the original scope is requested.
  • Advises Supervisor or Project Manager of any changes in work scope or of any potential budget over runs.
  • Maintains positive business relationships with clients, contractors, subcontractors' material suppliers, etc.
  • Responsible for care and maintenance assigned company equipment.
  • Daily prepares and submits own time sheet for approval.
  • May be requested to train new personnel and review procedures of technicians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/REQUIRMENTS/LICENSE

Requires high school diploma/GED and 2 years of experience in Grading or 1 plus years' experience with an Earth Science degree. Should have your nuclear gauge and ICC Soils certifications. Other certifications are a plus.  Should have a truck, van or suv to carry equipment and samples (We provide a vehicle reimbursement for the use of your own vehicle).   

License: Valid/current state driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Performing, general physical activities, talking, hearing and seeing. Driving, performing physical activity that requires moving one's whole body such as standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, feeling, reaching, lifting, grasping, twisting above the waist, bending at waist, repetitive hand and arm motion. Climb ladders, exertion of force, manipulation of hand and/or foot controls. Requires considerable use of the arms and legs, such as in the physical handling of materials. Must be able to consistently lift and/ or manipulate 25-75 pounds of material/equipment in an 8-hour period.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to accomplish tasks under adverse weather and/or site conditions. Some positions may require working in confined space or climbing and working at above average heights. Ability to work independently with little supervision.
