Special Education Teachers-Inclusion/Self-Contained: PK-12

Salary/Pay Scale: $43,125- $68,136 (Based on Experience)

To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible adults.
  1. Know and effectively communicate the Division philosophy and mission.
  2.  Cooperate with the principal in the registration of students new to the school.
  3. Assist students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data. Help students make education and occupation plans using relevant evaluation.
  4. Maintain student records and protect confidentiality.
  5. Work to resolve students’ educational handicaps, discover and develop special abilities, and prevent students from dropping out of school.
  6. Provide students information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions of the School Board’s policy on student records.
  7. Provide both individual and group counseling on a regular scheduled basis.
  8. Teach whole class guidance lessons to all grade levels within the school. 
  9. Guide students in their participation in school and community activities.
  10. Obtain and disseminate occupational information to students and to classes studying occupations.
  11. Help students evaluate career interests and choices.
  12. Organize and conduct an annual Career Day and College Day.
  13. Counsel students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems involving home and family relations, health, emotional and social adjustment.
  14. Confer with parents regularly.
  15. Interpret the guidance program to the community.
  16. Provide in-service training in guidance for teachers and student teachers.
  17. Advise administrators and faculty on matters of student discipline.
  18. Assist in the orientation of new faculty members.
  19. Cooperate with instructors in programs such as Education for Employment, Alternative Education, and Special Education, etc., to help assure success for at-risk students.                 
  20.  Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the principals.
