This is your chance to keep Southwest Florida Water Management District humming along with seamless precision. Using a customer-driven team approach, our General Services Bureau performs the important work behind the scenes that keeps our entire organization operating smoothly as we manage the water supply and protect our water quality. For helping to maintain our valuable water resources as a student, we offer:
  • Training and Development: Having a successful career takes more than technical training. The District helps our staff develop additional skill sets, such as emotional intelligence, time management, customer service, conflict resolution, communications and more. As an intern, you are eligible to attend these on-site trainings.

Compensation: $12.33 hourly


Essential Functions
  • Assist Facilities staff in the ongoing maintenance of District facilities and grounds, including lawn mowing, pressure washing, exterior building maintenance, landscaping and furniture moves.
  • Provide apprentice-level assistance to Facilities staff on more complex plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical or carpentry jobs.

Working Conditions
Must have ability to lift and carry 30 pounds while walking. May be required to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to extremely hot, humid weather conditions, mosquitoes and other pests. May be exposed to materials that are classified as hazardous, VOC, or herbicide products with the use of specialized PPE equipment. May be exposed to elements including sun and rain during entire work period. Must be able to bend, squat and climb on a regular basis. May be required to operate motor vehicles, mowers, man lifts, and miscellaneous landscape and construction equipment for extended periods. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

Required Credentials for Facility Services Student Intern Opportunity
  • High School diploma or equivalent 
  • Be at least part-time current enrollment in an accredited college, university, or other recognized educational or vocational program
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students

Preferred Credentials for Facility Services Student Intern Opportunity
  • Basic understanding of construction, maintenance and proper use of hand and power tools
  • Preferred Degrees: Engineering, Construction Management, Vocational, Technical
  • Preferred Degree Level: Undergraduate
