Graduate Student Researcher in Physical Therapy

The US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM) is offering a graduate-level internship at the Fort Stewart, Georgia, location.

As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to be part of a multi-faceted research study evaluating the influence of early access to musculoskeletal (MSK) injury expertise and targeted education & training in order to reduce injury rates within the US Army 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia. 

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience to complement your education and support your academic and professional goals. Along the way, you will engage in activities and research in several areas. The USARIEM is ready to make appointments effective September 7, 2021. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships or fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

This appointment is a three-month part-time research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

The US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM) is an internationally recognized center of excellence for Warfighter health and performance. Our research studies are conducted by scientists from our four research divisions, working in concert with one another, as well as other world-class scientists from government, industry and academia. The Military Performance Division conducts research to enhance the performance (physical, cognitive, behavioral and psychomotor) of military occupational tasks, or to prevent performance decrements due to physical overload, nutritional imbalances, environmental and operational stresses, and musculoskeletal injuries.

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The qualified candidate will be currently actively pursuing a master's or doctoral degree.  U.S. military veterans who have been honorably discharged (or who have been medically discharged because of a service-connected disability) and who received a degree within ten years of the desired start date are also eligible.
