Summer Intern, Legal (Pre-Law)

POSITION PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to aid Renewable Energy Group, Inc., (REG) by assisting the Legal Department with a focus on research and document review related to REG’s business. This will include statutory, regulatory, case law evaluations as well as internal and external contract, license, and corporate governance document review, retention, contract management activities and organization. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
Key Accountabilities:
Online legal research:

  • Synthesize statutory, regulatory, and case law research to support internal policy development.
  • Gather information from the business community to evaluate against current company practice.
  • Perform research and other duties to assist the Legal Department in answering questions as they arise in the normal course of business.
Document review:

  • Assist in the review of corporate governance documents for consistency and compliance.
  • Analyze and summarize company agreements, licenses, contracts and publications.
  • Review contracts, licenses, marketing materials, proposals, and other corporate documents for legal issues.
  • Review, categorize, file historical documents and set up notes and other memorandum relating to same.
Special Projects:

  • Assist with the implementation of key business projects.
  • Coordinate Project details, monitor progression, and verify completion.
  • Develop project work plans, schedules and business models.
  • Communicate with all groups and other members of the legal department involved.
  • Final follow-up involving legal and after action reviews.
The intern may perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required:

  • Enrolled in a university or community college and an interest in pursuing a law degree or paralegal studies program.
  • Junior or Senior status preferred
Experience Required:

  • 0-2 years.
  • Business environment experience, relevant courses, club participation and internship, prior work in a law office or other administrative duties preferred.
Skills Required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word).
  • Legal research (Lexis or Westlaw).
