Intern - Legal - Litigation & Compliance (Summer 2022)

The Legal team delivers world class legal services to our clients in a timely, efficient, and ethical manner and provides innovative and strategic solutions that actively contribute to the success of VMware. 

  • The Legal Department’s Litigation, Employment, Cybersecurity & Regulatory Compliance (“LECRC”) team is seeking a Litigation Intern to join this global, high-caliber organization.  The LECRC team is a global team that focuses on identifying and managing risks and threats, providing practical legal guidance to our clients, and defending the Company against claims anywhere across the globe.  Our team practices a collaborative, creative, practical, and results-oriented approach to providing legal advice and managing disputes.  If you are looking to join an energetic team where you can be a team player and a standout colleague, then you have found the place. 

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • As an Intern, you will be responsible for a wide range of projects and matters, including, for example, by participating in witness interviews, performing factual and legal research, assisting with discovery, and supporting and conducting investigations.  As a member of the VMware Litigation team, your responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborating with internal teams and outside counsel to support litigation matters, subpoenas, and other disputes, including pre-litigation counseling, fact investigation, discovery, motions practice, and dispute resolution in numerous jurisdictions globally
  • Conducting factual and legal research, reviewing and analyzing documents, and corresponding with parties, counsel, and third-party vendors
  • Assisting with collecting emails, documents, and other data for discovery
  • Building and developing rapport with other organizations within the Company
  • Operating effectively and cost-efficiently, remaining mindful of budget requirements and limitations
  • You will work alongside team members with many years of practice both in law firm and in-house environments, each of whom has had unique and varied experiences in theircareer journeys.

What skills would make for a successful internship?
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited law school
  • Strong academic record
  • Motivated self-learner with the passion to work in litigation
  • Positive, personable, strong interpersonal skills, and an upbeat, “can do” attitude
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sense of urgency
  • Creative, practical, entrepreneurial, and pragmatic
  • Excellent legal and business judgment, high standards, impeccable integrity, and high level of accountability
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to take ownership of tasks and adapt to changing business requirements.
  • Experience using legal review platforms (e.g., Relativity)

Where is this role located?

The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager. You will be expected to live within a reasonable non-daily commute of the Palo Alto office.

This position is available to currently enrolled Juris Doctorate-level students only, with a degree possession of May 2023 or later. The internship will be a 12-week, full-time commitment during Summer 2022.
