The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?
Come and join our data science group on VMware's Enterprise Data & Analytics (EDA) team! You would be part of our talented data science team in developing and applying state-of-the-art data science solutions. These solutions will help fulfill VMware’s data-driven vision in business optimization & transformation across all business units, R&D. You would be responsible for executing our strategic data science and machine learning roadmap, leveraging both operational and human generated datasets.
Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the course of the 12-week internship?
Within your first month, you will become familiar with our end-to-end data problems, from data cleaning to feature extractions, to model design and selections, validation and test, and productization of data science solutions in iterations.
Within your second month, you will start working on finding patterns and uncovering business insights within structured and unstructured data, Working side-by-side with technical and business leaders, business partner, and stakeholders to understand, process map, and solution complex business problems through the lens of data science.
Within your third month, you will start developing ML/AI models to to drive business actions and decisions, repeatable patterns to predict, discover, and distill complex information into actionable improvement
The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Develop and deploy machine learning/deep learning solutions to discover and predict trends in customer behavior, propensity to buy and respond to marketing campaigns, SaaS and perpetual license customers' journey experiences, product development quality, just to name a few.
Solid fundamentals, knowledge of supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning machine learning and deep learning algorithms, such as classifiers, cluster analysis, dimension reduction, regression, CNN, RNN, DQN, temporal difference methods, sequence modeling, attention models, transformers, probability theory, algorithm design and theory of computation, information retrieval
Master at least one of the machine learning frameworks - Keras, Tensorflow, PyTorch, etc, as well as programming such as R, Python, Java/C++
Gain knowledge in natural language processing techniques and text analytics

We are proficient in big data technologies such as Spark, Flink, and parallelization tools in enterprise Big Data Platform stack, technologies, and ecosystem.
You will work directly with the Director of Data Sciences within the Chief Digital Transformation Office.
What skills will make for a successful internship?
Currently pursuing a Data Science undergrad degree
Experience in PyTorch or like libraries
Experience in Machine Learning
Passion for data
Where is this role located?
Fixed: this role is based out of VMware’s Palo Alto office and open to candidates in the surrounding area
