Intern - Legal - Products & Technology Law (Summer 2022)

You will be part of a global team of ~220 dedicated legal and compliance professionals who share a passion and enthusiasm to both understand and successfully navigate every aspect of VMware’s fast-growing business.  This internship opportunity is designed for candidates who are interested in pursuing a legal career in technology and intellectual property, including patent prosecution.

You will be involved in a wide range of intellectual property and product-related matters.

As a member of the Intellectual Property and Products and Technology Law Group teams, your responsibilities will include:

•          Reviewing license agreements,

•          Shadowing attorneys in negotiations, interviews and fact-finding activities,

•          Assisting the team to provide guidance, support and leadership on intellectual property matters,

•          Analyzing legal requirements and preparing legal advice memoranda,

•          Supporting the product law counsel in a variety of product-related matters including privacy review, marketing, and global compliance matters. 

•          Working with our patent prosecutors in various aspects of US and foreign patent prosecution practice, including reviewing incoming inventions, reviewing draft patent applications and amendments, and overseeing foreign filing decisions and foreign prosecution work.

•          Supporting the IP counsel in patent infringement and invalidity analyses.

You will work alongside team members with many years of practice both in law firm and in-house environments, each of whom has had unique and varied experiences in the career journeys.

This role will be a remote internship position based anywhere in the US.
