Health Care Associate (Summer Camp)

Summer Camp Healthcare Associate
This is a 10 week full summer commitment that is from May 29-August 12.
The Woodlands provides a pre-planned break from July 3-July 8 and includes housing and all meals.

The Healthcare Associate is primarily responsible for distributing medication, providing appropriate professional medical support, and supporting personal care routines. Healthcare Associates remain on campus with participants overnight during all WFI camps and retreats.  

We do take internships!

Healthcare Associates Will: 
 
  •  Oversee the distribution of all medicine prescribed by program participant’s physician. All medications must be stored under double lock and key stored in the Healthcare Medication Carts.
  •  Review program participants’ applications and health physical reports with program manager and/or RN prior at the beginning of the program. 
  •  Review pertinent health care needs with participant’s parent/legal guardian.
  •  Function as a medical resource for Woodlands staff members. 
  •  Conduct participant examinations as necessary; note any changes in health condition; take corrective action as required.
  •  Assist WFI staff members with advanced personal care routines including but not limited to: medication administration, catheterization, wound and skin care, and urine and bowel programs.
  •  Participate/Assist with activities when needed.

All Woodlands Staff are Expected To: 
                   
  • Provide individualized adaptations, accommodations, and modifications based on participant needs.
  •  Complete all documentation completely and accurately within the allotted timeframe; report all incidents to the Camps and Retreats Program Coordinator.
  •  Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  •  Demonstrate responsible use of facilities and maintain a clean and sanitary environment. 
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of all WFI policies and procedures.
  •  Maintain strict participant confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Serve as a beneficial model to participants in all personal habits; maintain positive professional relationships with all WFI staff members, participants, families, and guests. 
  •  Communicate thoroughly and actively, providing constructive feedback to supervisors and all WFI staff members.
  •  Possess and demonstrate enthusiasm and positivity towards all WFI staff members, participants, families, guests and assigned or scheduled tasks and activities.
  •  Willingly adjust to changing priorities or conditions.
  •  Advocate for all WFI participants. 
  •  Supports and carries out the mission of the Woodlands Foundation.
  •  Performs all other duties as assigned. 
 

 
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:                         
 
 Must be at least 18 years of age.
 High school graduate or equivalency. 
 Flexibility in scheduling. 
 Procured PA Acts 33/34/73/31 upon hire.
 Unexpired CPR/ First Aid/ AED certification upon hire.  
 Ability to pass a Drug Screening.
 Ability to ascending and descend slopes and transverse a variety of indoor and outdoor settings and uneven terrains. 
 Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions and in swimming pools up to eight
(8) feet deep.
 Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch in order to assist participants or work with WFI equipment. 
 Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information with all WFI staff, participants, families, and guests. 
 Ability to safely, and securely and frequently: grasp, lift, transport, position, and place participants and WFI equipment weighing at least 50 lbs. 
 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
            
 Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
 Pursing a Healthcare degree or (RN, EMT, MD or related).
 Experience working with individuals with disabilities and providing invasive personal care.
