Vocational Coach Intern

  • Do you want to learn to quickly build rapport with a customer over the telephone while assessing their motivation and needs to help them reach an appropriate work goal?

  • Being a Vocational Coach Intern in the Healthy Working Life Department means that you will work with customers who have a very wide array of injuries or illnesses that impact their ability to work. Your job will be to work with customers to create and successfully reach return to work goals.
  • This Vocational Coach Internship is a full time internship position which meets all requirements to fulfill the course requirements for Master’s Degree Internship program. The Master’s Degree program must qualify under Certified Rehabilitation Counseling Certification (CRCC). We provide practical, hands-on experience in vocational counseling and on the job training.
 
On to the good stuff …What you’ll do:
 
  • Bring your work to life through professional documentation- Ability to document your work showing your amazing impact on the lives of our customers. Understands and is able to articulate a customer's perspective.
  • Know your audience - Work with employers who may need help to understand how a person with disability can be at work. Explain to health care providers what occupations involve. Keep customers engaged. Use telephone, email, and written correspondence to your advantage.
  • Manage your day through competing priorities - Plan to maximize your time to help customers with disabilities to meet work goals and adjust your plans for the day when a customer or client needs more support than anticipated.
  • Strategize and execute effective vocational case management – Maintain timely contacts and follow-ups while providing superior stay-at- and return-to-work planning.
  • Improve (us and you) – Collaborate with a network of CRC Vocational Coaches to talk about best-in-class approaches to our program and individualized work with the customers we serve.
  • Use Vocational Expertise­ – Help claim management partners understand occupational demands and transferability.  Quickly assimilate policy language and explain how it impacts a customer’s return-to-work journey.
 
What you need for the job:
 
  • Currently enrolled in Master's degreed internship program in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling or CRC eligible Master’s degree program
  • Passion for helping people adapt to physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges and not just go back to a but stay in a meaningful job.
  • Be tech savvy. Microsoft Word, Outlook, Sharepoint, and being able to quickly learn proprietary claims management systems are a must.
  • Be creative. Generates innovative ideas, approaches and solutions while being flexible and adaptable.
  • Effective team, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Be a master case load manager. We want you to be able help customers and talk to them frequently so time management and planning your day are very important
  • Document, document, document. Case documentation to clearly articulate efforts to aid the customer in meeting their unique needs, next steps, and reactions of the customer, client, health care provider per internal policies and procedures.
  • Always acts in a manner in line with ethical obligations issued by the Company and the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification.
 
Bonus points for these:
 
  • Experience working with people with mental health disabilities to seek gainful, meaningful, and productive employment while working to strategize ways to reduce workplace stigma.
  • Additional relevant licenses (LPC or LPC – I) and certifications (CCM, CDMS, CLMS, CEAS, PHR/SHRM-CP etc.).
  • Experience aiding customers with job seeking skills education and job placement assistance.
  • Deep understanding of occupational titles with experience completing Transferable Skills Analyses along with authoring reports of findings.
  • Understanding of ergonomic coaching techniques.
 
Work Location: Virtual. Also, your workspace should be in a private location where another person cannot see your screen and there is the ability to properly lock and secure your computer and work documents after work.
 
This position requires high-speed broadband internet.  Internet cannot be a satellite or a “hotspot” mobile connection. We prefer the ability to run a hard line connection to a computer vs. always working wireless.
