One Year Internship: Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (Atlanta Metro)

The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to local communities. The CVA position will support our Volunteer in Parks program to expand outreach and involve diverse communities in opportunities to experience the park. The intern will develop training material, work with community organizations and non-profits to identify opportunities, and assist with volunteer events. The intern will be part of the broader park team and learn about resource management and park operations.

Site Description: Chattahoochee River NRA is 15 land units along 48 river miles in northern metro Atlanta. Our volunteer program is large and successful and includes opportunities for trash clean-ups, trail maintenance and monitoring, biking, educational programming, and resource stewardship. Most volunteer events occur Saturday morning and our program offers a variety of training.

Position Responsibilities: • Reach out to new community organizations with similar missions and goals to make connections • Develop/improve VIP training to address park awareness • Assist with visitor use stats and collect trail counter data. Develop VIP recruitment to assist the park with visitor stat collection. • Join coordination with friends group to strengthen VIP opportunities (between NPS and CNPC) and learn about partnerships • Participate in a variety of park operations (educational programs, resource field days, river floats, interdisciplinary team meetings)

CVA Minimum Requirements: • Participate in the CVA National Early Service Training in fall/winter 2022/2023 • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident • Be 18-30 years old at time ofservice (veterans up to 35 years old) • A positive and inclusive attitude • Initiative and a willingnessto work and learn • Good communication skills • Education: Bachelor’s Degree • Submit proof of a Driver’s License and undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection • US Citizen, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States

Preferred Qualifications: • Be a team player • Experience speaking in public • Prioritize customer service • Enjoy the outdoors and have experience hiking and/or on the water • Experience in water safety/ability to swim Additional Information: • Work will include Saturday programs • Requires a driver's license • Work will include driving between park units (up for 40 minutes) • Shared park housing available (private bedroom/shared bath and common space)
