Community Engagement Internship (Year Long) - Atlanta Metro Area

The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to local communities. The CVA intern will work under the mentorship of the visitor services team members to enhance the park’s vibrant volunteer program, and educational outreach opportunities in Cobb County, Georgia. The Volunteer Coordinator will provide daily oversite and mentoring throughout the duration of the internship. The CVA at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will work under the mentorship of the Interpretation staff to enhance volunteerism, outreach, and education in Cobb County, Georgia. The Volunteer Coordinator will provide daily oversite and mentoring through the entire internship.

Site Description: Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is located in Cobb County, Georgia, about 25 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, within the northern suburbs of the greater Atlanta metropolitan area. The National Battlefield Park preserves approximately 2,923 acres of a Civil War battleground of the 1864 Atlanta Campaign. The size of this forested historic battleground makes it the largest green space in the 13-county metropolitan Atlanta region. Annual visitation is approximately three-million visitors a year. Nearly two-hundred National Park Service Volunteers in Parks (VIP) participants provide thousands of service hours assisting NPS personnel in operational and preservation efforts. Position Responsibilities: • The CVA will work with the park to increase volunteerism by recruiting a new cadre of diverse volunteers and assist with the daily management of the volunteer program. • The CVA will conduct continual community outreach within the park and local communities during the regular scheduled programing, special events, national public service days, and through social media. • The CVA will assist with the update volunteer training presentations as well as foundational and training documents, such as the volunteer handbooks, Position Descriptions, Job Hazard Analysis, etc. CVA

Minimum Requirements: • Participate in the CVA National Early Service Training in fall/winter 2022/2023 • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident • Be 18-30 years old at time of service (veterans up to 35 years old) • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study • Prior experience in program management, public history, education, natural or cultural resource management, or working with volunteers Strong organization, coordination skills, and public speaking skills • A self-starter able to work independently at times. • Provide excellent customer service while serving diverse groups of people • Communication skills both written and oral • Computer literate; proficient in Microsoft Office programs(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and data entry • Submit proof of a Driver’s License and undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection • US Citizen, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States

Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in social media as it relates to working with an organization. • Ability to engage and connect with the general public. • Experience in digital outreach and communication. • Experience in video editing. Additional Information: • Kennesaw Mountain NBP is within the metro-Atlanta area. Easy distance to restaurants, theaters, local attractions, additional NPS sites, and downtown Atlanta. • Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 8:45 am – 5:15 pm • Limited evening work will be required • They will probably work most holidays. They can use PTO if approved. • There are housing accommodations for the CVA. The type of housing is a shared, single family historic home located within park grounds. It includes air-conditioning, wireless internet, dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, fully stocked kitchen, two bedrooms, one bath, washer, dryer, and fully furnished. • Driver’s License and personal vehicle required (commuting to workstation). • The CVA will need to drive from park housing to work site.
