Manager of Inpatient Services - Full Time (Days)

Whitman Hospital & Medical Clinics is looking for an organized and problem-solving Manager of Inpatient Services . The Manager of Inpatient Services will report to the Director of Inpatient Services. This role is responsible for managing MSU and PCU department operations at the direction of the Director of Inpatient Services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to hiring and supervising staff, managing day-to-day department operations, which include leading and mentoring staff, fiscal planning, budget management, developing and maintaining policies and procedure. The Manager of Inpatient Services must have a comprehensive understanding and skill level in patient care principles for this leadership role. This position utilizes knowledge of hospital and departmental policies, procedures and systems. Duties include gathering and interpreting data, planning, organizing, delegating, supervising, and working effectively with physicians, staff, patients, public entities and external agencies. This position must have ability to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment, decision-making and problem-solving expertise. This position maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

Position Details
Full Time
80 hours per pay period (two weeks)

  • Assists in identifying and initiating department process improvements. 
  • Measures and monitors staff productivity.
  • Procures or requests necessary resources to efficiently provide services.
  • Routinely performs front line staff duties.
Department Leadership
  • Works closely with Staffing Scheduler to coordinate an effective distribution and utilization of staff and services during their shift based on patient acuity and staff experience, as well as providing support to staff.
  • Attend Daily Huddles to report any issues that may be pertinent to the leadership structure and to assess for any needs and facility security issues. 
  • Communicate appropriately with the Director and Administrator on-call while maintaining the highest level of awareness and responsiveness.
  • Exhibit excellent customer care techniques to internal and external customers.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and committees as assigned and assists with the implementation and interpretation of policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff and the public.
Safety/Security
  • Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
  • Possess a familiarity with the hospital environment of care codes including appropriate responses.
Infection Control/Employee Health
  • Utilize all hospital and patient care infection control policies and standards.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of standard precautions and aseptic technique.
  • Report exposures promptly and seeks assistance for care/follow-up. 
Patient Care
  • Perform direct patient care within scope of RN practice act and according to hospital policies and procedures, when needed or assigned.
  • Identify educational needs, implements and evaluates learning and documents patient / family education for all educational needs
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors.
  • Demonstrate knowledge level necessary to assess patient’s psychosocial, educational and physical needs, and the knowledge and skill to address these needs in an age appropriate manner for all age groups.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Utilize appropriate pain management techniques and document competency.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Active RN licensure in the state of Washington.
  • Minimum 5 years inpatient experience.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified through the AHA within thirty days of hire and maintained while employed.
  • TNCC certified through ENA within 12 months.
  • Experience using Electronic Health Care Record for patient documentation and Provider EMR support.
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), National Incident Management System (NIMS) on-line courses 100, 200 and 700 within thirty days of hire.
  • Prior management/Charge Nurse Experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • ICU or Emergency nursing background or Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification.
  • BSN Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
