21117 - Corporate Summer Internship - Corporate Investment Banking - Credit Products Analyst

Job Summary
Facilitates credit underwriting and portfolio management as part of the first line of defense for CIB's credit products organization, supporting the designated industry group. (Financial Institutions, Technology, Media & Communications, and Healthcare) Structures and underwrites new and renewal credit opportunities for both syndicated and bilateral lending activities for corporate clients and private equity sponsors, and provides ongoing credit servicing, portfolio monitoring and problem loan identification within the Synovus risk framework. Stays knowledgeable on industry risks and trends for the assigned industry. Conducts detailed credit analysis based on information provided by the borrower, publicly available information, evaluation of the borrower's credit needs, and the ability to pay across a range of products against established credit standards. Complies with internal policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. Serves as an additional point of client contact, maintaining a high level of client responsiveness. Navigates a wide variety of financial structures, credit scenarios and financial analysis situations. Collaborates with transaction teams on loan closings to ensure proper documentation of new and amended deals as well as waivers and modifications.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducts analysis and structuring of credit requests for clients and prospects. Develops client assessments including in-depth analyses of financial data and other information provided by the client. Conducts projection modeling, stress testing and other analyses using research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources. Assesses deal strengths and weaknesses and risk factors. Evaluates and establishes risk ratings for transactions and correlates exposure levels as a part of the client strategy discussion. Completes and coordinates memos using aforementioned process and materials. Interacts with deal team(s) and participant/agent banks on syndicated transactions. Collaborates with clients, other lenders and lender's counsel regarding loan documentation and closing process for new and amended credit facilities, including waivers and modifications. Helps ensure loan documentation complies with loan approvals.
  • Initiates discussions as needed with relationship teams to ensure client positive operating performance and ability to meet obligations. Notifies relationship teams of any deterioration in operating performance. Submits periodic reporting and servicing. Monitors tickler and exception reports to manage flow of financial reporting and client compliance with covenants. Provides a cohesive and comprehensive approach to review ratings, risk assessment, portfolios, clients and industries in assigned sector. Prepares and presents quarterly and annual risk reviews and tiering analyses. Assigns risk ratings and maintains updated credit research on portfolio of clients.
  • Remains current on all aspects of the credit relationship, including exposure, compliance, potential problems and opportunities. Notifies coverage bankers of any issues and interacts with clients as required. Serves as a client point of contact and is responsible for collection of required client reporting. Monitors existing client credit on a daily basis for issues or concerns. Conducts periodic credit servicing.
  • Ensures all transactions and processing are in compliance with regulatory and company guidelines, policies and procedures. Prepares documentation for loan discussion, approval and committee presentation purposes at direction of Credit Products/Coverage leadership.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.

Minimum Education:
  • Currently enrolled in bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university with major course work in a closely related field. (Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline)  Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, which is reflective of all college coursework.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products, including advanced Excel skills.

  • The corporate summer intern program is a 10 week program for the summer of 2023. The ideal candidate would be rising college Juniors and Seniors.
