Development Specialist

Position Summary:
The Development Specialist position at Public Health Solutions (PHS) will execute fundraising strategies, cultivating $100-499 donors, managing all logistics of our ongoing efforts to build philanthropic support, and managing prospect research, gift processing, and acknowledgments. The position reports to the Director of Development in the Development and Marketing department. The ideal candidate has managed fundraising campaigns including donor events and appeals; is an excellent writer who has created donor invites and appeal letters; is an outgoing professional who can work independently with donors, vendors, and staff; and has a thorough understanding of all aspects of prospect research, gift processing and fundraising tools and database management.
Specifically the Development Specialist:
  • Work with the Director of Development to execute on-the-ground management of fundraising function of the organization, including to meet/exceed annual fundraising goals.
  • Help acquire new donors and cultivate/maintain relationships through donor stewardship and relationship-building activities (individuals and companies).
  • Research and compile donor/prospect profiles, maintain records in Raiser's Edge create and manage donor and revenue tracking reports.
  • Manage fundraising campaigns and associated communications and logistics, including donor appeals, periodic issue-focused fundraising efforts, donor receptions, on-site and virtual fundraising initiatives (e.g., silent auction), and gala event.
  • Write and distribute PHS' donor communications, including appeal letters, donor newsletter, event invitations, web landing pages, donor acknowledgments, and other donor communications as assigned
  • Provide general administrative support to the Development and Marketing Department, including but not limited to team meeting agendas and note-taking, calendar management, follow-up calls and tasks, managing department invoices, and other correspondence, as needed.
  • In addition to the above, performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or equivalent.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in fundraising or development.
  • Strong proficiency with donor databases, research tools, search engines, and an ability to manage prospect research, gift processing, donor acknowledgments, and revenue tracking
  • Experience working with individual and corporate donors and managing fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate well to diverse audiences.
  • Must be detail-oriented, proactive, resourceful, and have a demonstrated ability to work independently and across multiple departments.
  • Ability to take direction, prioritize duties, meet deadlines, and manage numerous responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Good judgment and willingness to take initiative and apply creativity towards problem-solving as necessary.
