Enterprise Technology Engineering Intern, Summer '23

Program Overview

Summer internships are intended for undergraduate students between their junior and senior year. We are unable to pursue candidates who would require Visa sponsorship now or in the future.

We are seeking candidates for internships in software engineering, enterprise cyber security, data engineering, and data infrastructure.

Responsibilities will vary by role but could include:
  • Designing, developing testing, debugging, and maintaining new and existing systems as a member of an agile team.
  • Creating engaging customer experiences, while ensuring our customers’ data is safeguarded.
  • Collaborating with team members to peer review deliverables and maintain team quality/standards.
  • Contributing to the engineering and operations of solutions to protect Securian Financial’ s applications, computer networks and systems.
  • Engaging with users and vendors to execute technology proof of concepts that validate use cases and the value of new solutions
  • Onboarding new platforms and tools to ensure solutions are adopted effectively across the organization
  • Partnering with your coaches and leaders to identify and execute on skill development opportunities and network connections.
  • Discovering professional career paths and validating personal growth journeys.

Key technologies will vary by role but could include:
  • Back-End Development (Java, Spring Framework, REST APIs, JUnit)
  • Web Development (JavaScript, NodeJS, Bootstrap, React)
  • Data Engineering (Postgres, Redshift, NoSQL, StreamSets)
  • Quality Engineering (TypeScript, WDIO, Postman, NodeJS)
  • Cloud – AWS (EC2, Serverless, Lambdas, Security, and more)
  • Versioning and Deployment (GitHub, Puppet)
  • Productivity (Jira, ServiceNow, MSOffice Suite)

Qualifications:
  • Creativity and resourcefulness to problem solve both independently and as part of a team.
  • Sound analytical and design skills to understand and apply technical concepts.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with ability to work both independently, and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with team members.
  • Curiosity to pursue learning opportunities and further self-development.
  • Currently pursuing a four-year degree with a major in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Business Administration, Engineering, Physical Sciences, or related degree preferred.

Physical Job Requirements
  • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
