Intern Program:
The paid Summer Internship Program is an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a full-time BNSF employee. As an intern at BNSF, you’ll be given real-life, impactful assignments that will put your skills and education into practice. Your summer project will combine classroom experience and real-life business situations to provide value-added work to BNSF.
The program is designed to identify students BNSF hires as full-time Management Trainees after graduation. During your summer internship, you will get the chance to network with peers, our Business Resource Groups, and Senior Leaders throughout the BNSF network.

Compliance / Anti-Fraud Intern
Reports to: Project Manager Compliance
- BNSF’s Compliance Department fosters a culture of commitment to the highest business and ethical standards where compliance remains part of the company's operating rhythm. Our Anti-Fraud Team leads investigations for compliance and fraud-related issues and manages the BNSF Hotline. Our team also designs solutions to minimize the risks for fraud or abuse within business practices and processes. Our team also works closely with Corporate Audit Services, which provides independent, objective assurance, risk identification and mitigation, and consulting activities designed to add value and improve the BNSF community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position plays a key role in the Compliance Department’s fraud investigation and prevention efforts. The position is responsible for:
- Investigating allegations of misconduct. This position conducts investigations into alleged fraud, waste, or misuse of company resources. Carrying out these investigations requires the investigator to critically analyze complex facts and business processes (such as procurement, disbursement, travel expense, timekeeping, and payroll). This includes documenting evidence and communicating results of investigations to senior leadership through written reports and/or verbal briefings.
- Leveraging technology to detect and deter fraud or abuse. Carrying out this responsibility requires understanding how various information systems work and designing and/or implementing solutions to deter fraud and abuse within those systems.
SKILL SETS:
Strong analytical skills are critical to this position because it requires:
- Conducting investigations;
- Interpreting and analyzing evidence;
- Identifying unusual or suspicious patterns, trends, or red flags that warrant further investigation;
- Maintaining confidentiality;
- Using financial and business acumen to quickly understand and complex business processes;
- Risk-assessing business process, prioritizing identified risks, and recommending controls to mitigate risks (for example, recommending appropriate operational internal controls).
Strong communication skills are critical to this position because it requires:
- Conducting witness interviews;
- Communicating within the Compliance Department
- Drafting detailed investigation reports.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Primarily an office environment with some field activities.
- Normal office hours, five days per week with weekend or evening work as required.
- Extended hours may be required on occasion.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT:
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Cumulative GPA of 2.50 for engineering majors OR cumulative GPA of 2.75 for non-engineering majors.
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or graduate degree program at an accredited university at the time of application and throughout the duration of the internship.
- Less than four (4) years of work experience in a professional work environment. When calculating work experience, please EXCLUDE internships or positions held while in high school or college.
- Authorization to work in the US without Company sponsorship now AND in the future.
- Ability to relocate to Fort Worth, TX for the summer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Pursuit a degree in one of the following:
- Accounting or Finance
- Management Information Systems
- Computer Science
- Computer Networking
- Transportation Logistics
- Other Business-related degree
- Previous work experience in related field
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications (specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point)
- Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication skills
