Intern Program: 
 
The paid Summer Internship Program is an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a full-time BNSF employee. As an intern at BNSF, you’ll be given real-life, impactful assignments that will put your skills and education into practice. Your summer project will combine classroom experience and real-life business situations to provide value-added work to BNSF. 
 
The program is designed to identify students BNSF hires as full-time Management Trainees after graduation. During your summer internship, you will get the chance to network with peers, our Business Resource Groups, and Senior Leaders throughout the BNSF network.  
 
  • Kick off the summer along with a group of interns for orientation in Fort Worth, Texas. Attend networking events, and informal chats with subject-matter experts, partner with a mentor, and get first-hand experience working in preparation for a full-time management trainee position! 
  • Potential for an offer of full-time position after the internship
  • Explore a potential career path at BNSF with incredible opportunities for growth and the possibility of traveling our network 
  • Relocation and separate monthly housing stipend (starting at $800 a month!)

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
As a Human Resources Intern, you will have the opportunity to positively contribute to the Initiatives of the Human Resources and Medical Department. You will gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experiences within various aspects of HR.     
Interns will participate in projects and exposures that will provide the opportunity to learn and develop new competencies within HR while being able to influence business decisions and impact the broader organization.

As a HR Intern you can expect the following: 
  • Lead and participate in projects that will influence business decisions and have impact on the future of the organization.    
  • Gain insights through research, benchmarking, feedback and data analysis   
  • Partner with HR teams to share insights and propose recommendations  
  • Present proposals to Team Leaders and Sr. HR Leaders  
  • Implement changes across the impacted organization 
  • Participate in various HR department activities such as hiring, performance management, talent development to gain exposure to these processes across the organization and develop more insight into HR’s impact on the organization. 
  • Gain exposure and understanding to other aspects of BNSF to gain broader understanding of the organization.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT: 
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work. 
 
WORKING CONDITIONS: 
  • Primarily an office environment with some field activities. 
  • Normal office hours, Monday through Friday, with weekend or evening work as required. 
 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.50 for engineering majors OR cumulative GPA of 2.75 for non-engineering majors. 
  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or graduate degree program at an accredited university at the time of application and throughout the duration of the internship. 
  • Less than four (4) years of work experience in a professional work environment. When calculating work experience, please EXCLUDE internships or positions held while in high school or college. 
  • Authorization to work in the US without Company sponsorship now AND in the future. 
  • Ability to relocate to an assigned location and travel within the BNSF Network for the summer. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. 
  • Pursuit of a degree in Human Resources, Management, Legal Studies, OR business related major. 
  • Graduation date prior to September 1, 2024. 
  • Previous work experience in a human resource related environment. 
  • Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
