About the Team:
The Animal Care Team provides a range of services to support Animal Operations Division.  This team offers those interested in working with small and large animals an entry into a laboratory setting.  The team focuses on maintaining the highest standards of animal care and welfare in accordance with the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).  The technicians works in a fast paced, team environment.

Internship Assignment Summary
The scope of this position is to support Animal Operations
Animal Care – 25%
  • Maintaining the highest standards of animal care and welfare in accordance with the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC)
  • Performing daily cleaning, feeding of our laboratory animals
  • Providing environmental and dietary enrichment
  • Learning and applying proper handling and restraint techniques
  • May learn basic blood/ sample collection techniques
  • Working in a fast paced, team environment May perform cage wash duties as needed

Inventory management project – 75%
  • Analyze, Design, Develop a inventory management process to track vivarium equipment from arrival, to in-use life cycle, storage and disposal
May perform other related duties as assigned

Education/Qualifications/Skills: 
  • Interest in working with animals in a lab setting
  • Has experience delivering multiple projects in an academic or professional setting
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and internal/external colleagues
  • Embraces diverse ways of thinking through various forms collaboration and partnership
