Cell Culture Media Development Internship Overview
Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie’s Experiential Interns.
The Cell Culture Media Development intern will be tasked with evaluating various cell culture media components to improve the productivity of model CHOZN® GS-/- cell lines as part of the development of AbbVie’s next generation CHO media platform.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Design and prepare cell culture media and stock solutions
  • Plan, design, and execute cell culture activities from vial thaw, passaging, scale-up, and shake flask fed batch production experiments
  • Maintain and use various analyzers such as cell counter, blood gas analyzer, metabolite analyzer, and high-pressure liquid chromatography instrument
  • Document data and analyze data
  • Author and present experiment findings in a PowerPoint and/or poster presentation
 
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related field
  • Expected graduation date between August 2023 and December 2024
  • Laboratory experience with mammalian cell culture with proficiency in aseptic technique
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to suspension cell culture
  • Experience with cell culture media and/or stock solution preparation
  • Experience with HPLC
  • Experience with experiment design, mathematical modelling, and statistics
