Software Engineer Student

About the Role
The Knoxville Utilities Board is hiring multiple Student Summer Internship positions. These roles will support the Development, Database Administration, and System Administration teams. Activities for these positions include developing web applications and services using JavaScript libraries and frameworks including Dojo Toolkit, Ember.js, and ArcGIS API for JavaScript. Tasks will include developing single-page applications with JavaScript and web services with Java to modernize existing systems. The successful candidate will learn how to interpret functional designs, work in a team development environment, and will code, test, and deploy applications and services. We will train the skills, but what the successful candidate will bring is passion and a relentless desire to learn and contribute.

Minimum Requirements
● Must be full-time student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management, or related discipline
● Must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
● Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
● Effective oral and written communication skills
● Must possess skills in MS Office applications, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 

Physical Requirements
Sedentary work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Physical demands for a specific position within this classification may vary and / or exceed those demands described above. 

Preferred Requirements
● Maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
● Strong work ethic with attention to detail
● Willingness to follow step-by-step instructions
● Interest in working in Object Oriented development (C++, JAVA, or .Net) and/or JavaScript / HTML & CSS Design and SQL
● Interest in learning the Microsoft productivity suite and MS Access Databases, including VBA for Access, and Power Apps
● A passion for process automation including scripting, source control, configuration as code, infrastructure as code and managing CI/CD pipelines
