Director ~ Pharmacy

The Pharmacist is responsible for supervising and coordinating all activities of personnel in the hospital pharmacy. This individual also is responsible for compounding and dispensing medications by means of standard physical and chemical procedures to fill written medication and prescription requests issued by all qualified prescribers, records maintenance, Pharmacy Technician supervision, and Quality Assurance. The work environment is a hospital setting and may include exposure to potentially hazardous and toxic substances. Perform any duties and/or responsibilities assigned by Manager or Supervisor for which qualified.
Responsibilities:
• Reviews narcotic dispensing records, administration records, receiving and recording records/materials to ensure proper security and adherence to proper procedures as required to prevent violations of laws and policies. • Maintains hospitals formularies and other sources of information on preparations, standard compendia on pharmaceuticals, references texts and journals. • Participates in all patient care evaluations, drug audits and surveillance programs that require pharmacist input. • Consults with medical staff regarding information on medications, drug warnings, incompatibilities and contraindications on a timely and accurate basis. • Initiates and implements rules and regulations in consultation with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Hospital administration which effectuate the administrative and professional policies of the Pharmacy Department. • Serves on committees as requested. • Maintains an awareness of new pharmaceutical advances and products and informs the appropriate staff. • Serves as a consultant to EMHS corporate offices on pharmacy matters. • Maintains a viable communication link with the hospital Medical Director. • Interviews, hires, trains, and orients employees. • Allocates responsibilities to ensure maximum productivity and teamwork. • Assist in maintaining a work environment free from recognized hazards that create a risk of injury to employees, patients or visitors and that all accidents and incidents are reported by employees and properly investigated. When appropriate, assist with the return of all workers with work related injuries and illnesses to gainful employment. • Provides access to inservices and continuing education for department personnel. Promotes professional growth and development. • Schedules and assigns work for personnel as necessary. Ensures adequate coverage for leaves and vacations. • Supervises department staff, establishes department performance standards and conducts appraisals on a regular basis. • Develops and maintains job descriptions for department staff. Maintains up-to-date personnel records. • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
