Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate VP of Academic Affairs, the Health Sciences, Education and Wellness Institute (HSEWI) Dean provides strategic instructional leadership that supports the HSEWI goals and strategic plan. The Dean plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates HSEWI programs to address the educational needs of students and the community. The Dean is a member of the college's instructional team, responsible for implementing the shared vision and direction for academic and professional programs and instructional delivery. The dean directly supervises faculty, program chairs, program directors, director of operations, associate dean, and grant personnel, and indirectly supervises employees that report to these positions.

The position has full authority to develop and implement division protocol and best practices, serve on governance councils and advisory boards on the Division and the College's behalf, has financial/budgetary agency authority over the Division, and has final oversight and decision-making authority over how division will apply, develop or determine policy impact and resource allocation. The Dean ensures that all aspects of divisional instructional delivery are driven toward equity/inclusivity, teaching & learning excellence, community engagement and enrichment, college life and culture, and student success.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Annual salary range: $106,586 - $159,880

Annual salary will be commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department

The Health Sciences, Education & Wellness Institute (HSEWI) fosters successful completion of our diverse students' education goals, as well as advocates life-long wellness, learning, teaching, and service excellence. We provide a wide variety of accessible, rigorous, and engaging professional/technical courses, programs, and credentials that are responsive to individual, institutional, and community needs, prospects, and opportunities. Our Institute is comprised of sixteen unique programs which focus on providing excellent education and training for many professions in healthcare, education, and wellness.

Essential Functions

Manage personnel

• Directs and oversees recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, retaining, mentoring, supervising, evaluating and disciplining of a diverse workforce within the Division
• Evaluates tenure-track faculty candidates, including conducting observations, and providing feedback to tenure candidates
• Oversees the tenure evaluation process, including participating in Tenure Evaluation Subcommittee
• Manages and evaluates staff direct reports and participates in the evaluation of other staff who do not directly report to the Dean.
• Manages and evaluates full-time faculty, and works directly with Program Chairs to coordinate program-level work
• Supports faculty and students in resolving academic grievances
• Monitors ongoing professional development and Certification of Professional Technical plans and progress, when applicable

Division Leadership

• Represents Division through interactions with the College, accrediting bodies, State and national government agencies, and community partners
• Develops a collaborative climate for fulfilling division and College objectives and initiatives, and engages in team and consensus building among faculty and staff
• Coordinates the establishment of the vision and goals for the division in alignment with Office of Academic Affairs annual priorities and the College's strategic plan
• Collaborates with support units (e.g., Disability Resource Center, Multicultural Services, Title IX, CARE team, Trio) in the support of student success
• Provides culturally-competent mentoring, problem-solving and leadership to faculty and staff, including in resolving issues inside and outside the department
• Coordinates with other units on campus (e.g., Administrative Services, Information Technology Services, Effectiveness, Research and Grants, Advancement) to support Instruction

Division Resource Management

• Establishes and monitors resource priorities, allocations and protocols
• Establishes and monitors strategic enrollment management to achieve maximum efficiency in revenue generation
• Monitors allocated budget and advocates for resources to fulfill the Division's priorities and initiatives
• Allocates space for programmatic needs and mission fulfillment
• Provides feedback to upper administration regarding facilities, space, time and financial priorities
• Provides oversight for external grants awarded to the Division faculty
• Responsible for oversight of Division labs, equipment, and safety protocol
• Collaborates with College Deans and Directors regarding shared resources and enrollment management

College Governance

• Serves on the Academic Affairs Leadership Team
• Contributes to college-wide initiatives, internal partnerships and collaborations, and leads these initiatives within the division
• Represents Office of Academic Affairs and HSEWI Division in governance councils, committees, and task forces
• Actively participates in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives within College Governance

Curriculum Oversight

• Supports curriculum development for the maintenance of current and relevant curriculum, including for Bachelor's programs
• Works within Curriculum Approval Committee protocols to approve, modify or reject curriculum proposals for quality control
• Collaborates with transfer universities in establishing and maintaining articulation agreements and direct transfer agreements
• Monitors curricular expertise of faculty to ensure it is current and up to date.
• Oversees annual and quarterly course schedules to optimize efficiencies and fulfill student need

Diversity and Equity

• Supports opportunities for faculty and staff to develop in matters of educational equity and cultural competency through such events as Professional Development, Division Retreats, and Workshops
• Oversees strategies to recruit and retain a diverse workforce
• Leads through a focus on diversity and equity, including efforts to reduce performance and retention gaps for underrepresented populations

Community Relations

• Represents the division and the College in community outreach events
• Represents the division at industry events and serves, if necessary, on industry task forces or advisory boards to benefit division programs
• Serves on K-12 advisory committees, business-related task forces, or others as appropriate
• Engages in fundraising as appropriate
• Recruits community partners for experiential learning resources, program advisory committees, student mentoring programs, etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's Degree from an accredited institution or any combination of relevant experience can be substituted on a year-for-year basis
• A minimum of two (2) years' full-time (or equivalent) teaching experience
• A minimum of three (3) years' experience with managing complex and diverse organizational units with competing needs
• Experience working with diverse colleagues and students in a collaborative an inclusive environment
• Experience with budgetary processes and financial statements
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working as a dean in a community college setting
• Experience with or knowledge of issues related to Health Science education
• Teaching experience in higher education
• Experience with program-specific accreditation
• Demonstrated ability to engage all team members collaboratively, and work collectively to implement and achieve goals and objectives
• Work experience that demonstrates effective and productive management, interpersonal, communication, collaboration, evaluative and problem-solving skills
• Experience in addressing disproportionate impact and equity issues in the higher education environment.
• Experience recruiting, retaining, developing, and evaluating diverse faculty and staff
• Ability to interpret and implement complex program and administrative policies
• Experience in instructional design and/or curriculum development
• Demonstrated ability to assess trends in education, technology, business and industry, including policies at the state, regional, national, and global levels
• Entrepreneurial experience working collaboratively with local, regional and international institutions in developing innovative programs in response to changing community needs
