Foreign Agricultural Service Agricultural Marketing

Job Description:


Duties include:
• Participates in conducting and evaluating research using various sources to learn the technical aspect of trade compliance and enforcement and to be able to gain an understanding in addition to addressing questions from stakeholders.
• Assists in general administrative support, including responding to routine inquiries, special projects, and preparing and/or editing correspondence. 
• Assists in developing briefings, issue papers, presentations, and conference materials. 
• Participates and contribute in scheduled meetings and conferences. Assembles and analyzes information to draw a logical conclusion regarding non-complex trade issues. 
• Assists vendors through the process of becoming established in the web system as a vendor, including the support, development, and delivery of the necessary system training. Responds to a broad range of verbal and written inquiries. 
• Seek and develop a sound relationship with contractors, industry organizations, and other interested parties to acquire timely technical information and to secure ideas for new and ongoing programs.
About USDA and HACU
For the past 27 years, USDA has partnered with HACU to provide internship opportunities for hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students. These internships provide valuable professional experience for students while also exposing students to the important work that is done at USDA. The students also make significant contributions to the sub-agencies.
This partnership with HACU represents a larger USDA strategy aimed at ensuring a diverse, prepared, and competitive workforce that is vital to establishing a sustainable agricultural future. As a result of their positive internship experiences and supportive and inclusive culture at USDA, many former HACU students are now members of the USDA permanent workforce.


Qualifications:


Preferred majors: Agricultural Marketing Assistant
Desired Skills:
• Knowledge of basic International Trade principles and analysis. 
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in accordance with well-established policies, procedures, and techniques. 
• Ability to gain practical knowledge, developed through increasingly difficult, on-the-job training or experience dealing with the operations, regulations, principles, and peculiarities of the assigned program, function, or activity. 
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing, in a clear, concise, comprehensive, and well-reasoned manner; to draft basic information, summaries, analyses, and general correspondence. 
• Basic knowledge of and skill in Microsoft Office software. 
• Ability to collaborate with others in order to obtain and share information.
