About Strategy and Emerging Business:

The Strategy and Emerging Business division comprises of Healthworx Ventures, which serves as CareFirst’s innovation and investment arm, as well as Strategy and Planning, which aligns CareFirst’s operations with its corporate goals and priorities.

Job Description:
This internship is designed to be a 11-week full-time opportunity beginning May 22, 2023 and concluding August 4, 2023. The program is offered in two tracks: The Graduate track is ideal for individuals preparing for a professional career in healthcare, and a Bachelors track ideal for rising undergraduates seeking experience and exposure to diverse careers in healthcare.
Regardless of track, the first two weeks of the program will feature rotations across the various verticals of the Enterprise Strategy Division: Healthworx Ventures, Strategy and Planning, Operations and Finance, Market Insights, Corporate Development, and the Community Engagement Centers. The remainder of the internship will be project based across one or more of these areas.
In addition to the day-to-day work supporting their respective tracks, interns will receive a special curriculum which includes ‘lunch and learns’ with CareFirst associates and/or executives, access to ecosystem start-ups, entrepreneurial and healthcare focused workshops, and networking/community building events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education Level: 
Graduate Track: Actively pursuing a graduate degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Public Policy, or other business-related degree at an accredited college or university during internship
  • Demonstrates basic, broad understanding of key healthcare industry concepts
  • Interest to specialize and advance career in Strategy, Consulting, Analytics, Marketing, Venture Capital, Corporate Development
OR
Undergraduate Track: Rising Senior with a minimum 3.5 GPA, pursuing a degree Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Public Policy, or other business-related degree at an accredited college or university during internship.

Required Abilities/Skills
  • Independent thinker and self-starter who can also work as part of a team
  • Project management experience or education preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to positively interface with and establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic and creative decision maker who can motivate self without constant supervision
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including assisting with presentations and proposals.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
  • Demonstrated skills with various computer applications/software, particularly those related to database management and the development of presentations.
