Family Support Counselor - Wraparound Program

Join our team at Seneca Family of Agencies in our San Luis Obispo County Wraparound Program as a Support Counselor. The Support Counselor serves children and families by providing behaviorally focused mental health services. Counselors work with youth in their environments: assisting birth/foster parents with care and supervision, maintaining a close and supportive relationship with the child’s educational placement, planning activities that encourage social development, and supporting the youth in getting access to community resources. The Support Counselor is a member of a treatment team that seeks to provide families with strengths-based, family-focused support.
 
About Wraparound
Our Kinship Center offers intensive “Wraparound” services to children and youth at risk of placement in a high-level group home, and to their families. The Wraparound programs are strength-based, family-driven, flexible and creative, with the goal of helping the family develop the skills and supports to prevent or reduce the possibility of residential placement of their child.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the birth/foster parents in all aspects of care and supervision of the child as needed.
  • Provide behaviorally focused mental health support services to clients and their families.
  • Plan and implement individual and group activities that encourage the child’s social development.
  • Complete the necessary Medi-Cal/mental health notes, written in a billable and timely manner.
  • Submit incident reports and other documentation in a timely and complete manner.
  • Provide supervision for visits with birth family when necessary.
  • Maintain a close and supportive relationship with the child’s educational placement that may include in-classroom support and tutorial assistance.
  • Participate in treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and IEP meetings when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in social work, counseling, psychology, child development or similar field.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English abilities a plus.
  • Experience working with children and families, particularly providing case management.
  • Experience with adoption and attachment issues of children served a plus.
  • Computer skills in MS Word, Outlook and assessment or outcome measure data entry programs.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and administrative skills.
  • Valid California driver’s license and insurability by Seneca’s automobile insurance carrier.
  • Clearance of TB test, fingerprinting clearances, and any other State/Federal licensing or
  • certification requirements.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster required.

Schedule

  • Full-time.
