Business Process Improvement (Accounting) Intern

Position Title:Business Process Improvement (Accounting) Intern

Role
The Business Process Improvement (“BPI”) team leads special projects and systems enhancements. The Intern’s work will relate specifically to the Network Revenue Billing, Collections, and Cash Applications team. BPI activities can range from implementing new functionality in our systems/ applications, to creating process and training documentation, to streamlining manual business processes through the use of Robotic Process Automation and Power BI. The BPI intern will work alongside the Business Analyst III and Manager, as well as other Accounting and Finance team members, on select projects throughout the summer. Projects may span such areas as: Accounts Payable, Billing, General Ledger, Collections, Cash Application, and more. While not a typical Accounting internship, this role exposes the Intern to not only general Accounting concepts, but also to the foundational principles of project management and systems implementations.
 
Responsibilities
Intern responsibilities are subject to change, but may include the following:
  • Learn functions and processes of team, as well as overall business model of company
  • Learn project management concepts and apply to assigned projects
  • Lead a process enhancement project – including discovery, planning and execution
  • Advance data analysis and reconciliation skills
  • Establish relationships and collaborate effectively with team members and business partners
  • Influence others to complete commitments timely and accurately

Education/Certifications  
  • Currently enrolled in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher education institution
  • Preferred field(s) of study: Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Information Technology, Accounting Information Systems, Project Management, or similar
 
Experience/Minimum Requirements  
  •  Authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time, regular basis without additional sponsorship.
  •  Minimum of 1 or 2 semesters of Accounting / Accounting Information Systems coursework would be helpful but is not required.
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio and Power BI would be helpful but is not required.

Reports to: Manager, Business Process Improvement

Work Plans: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in your assigned office approximately 60% of the time (3 days per week) and where you do your best work 40% (2 days per week). There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that requires up to 25% travel.
