Advanced Career Counselor at CAPI USA

JOB SUMMARY: The Advanced Career Counselor will support internationally trained professionals who have been licensed for the same or similar healthcare work in their country of origin and seek to re-enter a healthcare workforce requiring a post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate for licensure to obtain professional licensure to do the same or similar work in Minnesota.
WAGES AND BENEFITS: $24.50 - $25.50 per hour; medical insurance, including generous employer contributions to a Health Savings Account; dental and vision insurance; participation in the agency-sponsored retirement plan with a 3% match; employer-paid life insurance; short- and long-term disability insurance; generous paid time off, plus 10 employer paid holidays and 1 floating holiday per year.
 
SCHEDULE: The majority of this position is conducted 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday; however, there may be some light evening and weekends. Currently, all CAPI staff are working three days in the office and two days from home. Starting in the fall, all CAPI staff will work four days in the office and have the option of working one day from home as their job responsibilities allow.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Outreach
Conduct outreach at area colleges, universities, at community-based organizations, etc. to actively promote the program; focus on both eligible community members and students. Work in tandem with CAPI’s Outreach Coordinator.

Conduct outreach through various methods including flyers, brochures, radio ads and more; work in tandem with CAPI’s Development and Communications Manager and adhere to agency policies and procedures.
Enrollment and Assessment
Screen participants for eligibility: internationally trained professionals at least 18 years of age or older who have been licensed for the same or similar work in their country of origin and seek to re-enter the healthcare workforce requiring a post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate for licensure and obtain professional licensure to do similar work in Minnesota.

Enroll participants and complete appropriate intake process according to funder and agency policies.
Education and Career Coordination
Provide highly person-centered support to assist persons who are internationally trained in healthcare to obtain a post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate for licensure.

Support persons with credential evaluation through connection with international transcript review providers and/or and credit for prior learning, credit for prior experience and transfer of credit services at colleges and universities and support persons with this process.

Develop and maintain relationships with area colleges/universities and gain in-depth knowledge of credit for prior learning, credit for prior experience and transfer of credit opportunities.

Assist participants in navigating college/university enrollment processes, including identifying school(s), gathering transcripts, applying for financial aid, applying to have international transcripts reviewed, etc.
Job Readiness and Employment
Connect persons to professional healthcare work readiness services via CAPI’s partner organization.

Work in tandem with CAPI’s Employment Developer who develops and maintains formal and informal employer partnerships.

Provide support such as resume building and application assistance as needed.

Support participants to secure similar healthcare work in Minnesota.
Data/File Management and Reporting
Contribute to department wide performance on outcomes from CAPI’s funders and grantors.

Input required data in databases a timely manner and maintain all required case file documentation per DEED and agency policies. Ensure thorough and accurate case notes in Workforce One and Salesforce.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Social Work, Psychology or a related Human Services Field required OR a combination of demonstrably equivalent education and experience.

Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations preferred; ability to work effectively with diverse populations required.

Two years of professional experience in college/educational counseling, employment/vocational counseling, or other human services area preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal communication, counseling/coaching, and conflict resolution skills.

Bilingual communication skills preferred; ability to proficiently speak, write, read, and understand English required.

Ability to pay attention to detail, balance competing priorities, shift focus quickly, and adhere to deadlines.

Ability to learn and use a variety of computer programs competently to perform daily work.

Knowledge of systemic social and economic challenges faced by Immigrants and Refugees preferred.

Knowledge of higher education system, as well as educational and community resources preferred.

Knowledge of DEED Adults Career Pathways/Workforce One programming preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
 Valid MN Drivers’ License, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet CAPI’s driving record requirements.
 
COVID protocols: CAPI USA requires employees to be vaccinated as a condition of employment, subject to reasonable accommodation required by law. All vaccination doses must have been received at least fourteen days prior to starting employment. CAPI recommends masking and social distancing, sanitizes common services regularly and is currently open by appointment for most services.
