Bright Futures is an after school program for scholars aged Kindergarten through Grade 5 who live or attend school in North Minneapolis. Youth Workers deliver programming directly to the scholars by providing social and learning enrichment activities. Being a Youth Worker is a great fit for college students and young professionals who are seeking experience in education, social and human services, and community engagement. This position is located in a community center campus that houses several programs including an alternative high school, the after school program, and a community theater.
 
WAGES & BENEFITS: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour with full eligibility for benefits at 20 hours per week (PTO, medical, dental, and vision). PCYC provides company-paid life insurance and long-term disability insurance. This program also invests in your future career with professional development training in the RISE Curriculum.
 
SCHEDULING OPTIONS: Bright Futures is looking for part-time and full-time Youth Workers. We are looking for staff to work a minimum of 2 days per week and up to all 5 days per week. Hours may vary but regular working hours are scheduled during the summer from 8:00am-4:30pm.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead a classroom of scholars through the daily program schedule by engaging youth in our academic and social/emotional learning curriculum.
  • Create and lead activities on subjects including art, STEM (science/technology/engineering/math), music, dance, etc.
  • Develop lesson plans for daily programming.
  • Observe and evaluate the social/emotional strengths of scholars in the classroom in collaboration with program leaders.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families, and partners to meet shared program goals.
  • Establish and maintain meaningful, appropriate, professional relationships with scholars and their families.
Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED, college degree preferred.
  • 2 years’ experience working with diverse urban youth preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to relate effectively and model behavior in a positive manner with adults and scholars from diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Energetic and self-motivated, with the ability to deescalate challenging situations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the classroom for prolonged periods; ability to walk fast or run occasionally; ability to lift up to 45 pounds at a time; and the ability to sit and stand on the floor throughout the day, and bend, kneel, or squat to be at eye level with scholars.
