ADMINISTRATIVE TECHNICIAN

In the Administrative Technician position in the Human Services department, you can expect to provide various administrative support to your team! A typical day may include scheduling customer appointments, scanning records, and filing, creating data tracking spreadsheets, data collection, and data entry.
 
Administrative Technician’s may also assist with handling program or customer related financial transactions, tracking and monitoring program and customer client expenses. Depending on the division you report to, you could also be generating data reports, analyzing data information and providing feedback to improve processes and program outcomes. Communication skills and the ability to build interpersonal relationships will come in handy, as you will be working directly with the public and others outside the work units to obtain and provide information and assistance in a variety of circumstances. The Administrative Technician also provides information on policies and procedures.
 
The salary range for this position is $31k-$51k, and is competitive based on education, qualifications and experience. In addition to salary, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to meet all of our employee’s needs!

This position requires a high school diploma and 2 years of related administrative support experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience necessary to develop the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.

An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and sex offender registry check. In the event of a declared emergency in the City of Newport News, individuals in this position are required to work shelter duty and may be called on to perform duties as required to provide for the safety and care of the citizens of the community.
