Camp Counselor

June - August 2019 • Woonsocket, RI

What I liked

I loved working with the kids and giving back to my community.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more activities to share with the kids. Also, the program seemed to be underfunded and it would have been better for the kids if we had better programs and field trips.

Advice

That anyone wanted to participate in volunteer work and help others should work for the Americorps.

Communications Intern

June - August 2021 • Minnetonka, MN

What I liked

AmeriCorps allowed me the opportunity to give back to my community while simultaneously growing as a professional in a field I am passionate about!

What I wish was different

I wish there was more options for in office work as I spent a majority of my internship remote. I absolutely adored my coworkers and would have loved working alongside them.

Advice

Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. I doubted my own abilities at the start of the internship because the goal seemed daunting; however, when you are passionate about a cause you will find all the motivation you need to succeed.

AmeriCorps

May 2022 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

I enjoy providing service to residents to make their homes more safe to live in. The service includes Home Safety items such as smoke, door alarms, vacuums, air filters, humidifiers, etc. as well as filters and faucet mounts to filter drinking water. On another note, I enjoy working with other members on clean-up projects in which we clean areas with much debris and vegetation.

What I wish was different

I feel that more cleanups around the cities can be done since many areas of the city are old and need much repair as far as cleaning. This will ensure the safety of children traveling to school as well as people who enjoy walking along the city sidewalks.

Advice

The advice I would share is to always be prepared for any project that would be done on a given day. There's so much variety to what service can do for people and there are always individuals who need assistance so it is vital to just always stay on top of one's own toes.
