Patient Care Tech

April 2021 • Blacksburg, VA

What I liked

Very good work environment, super friendly and helpful people. On the job training provided. Flexible schedules

What I wish was different

Required 8 hour shifts instead of 12. More sick days, but will be flexible and work with you if sick.

Advice

We always need PCTs and there’s room to move up if you want to be a nurse or work in a different section of the hospital.

Data Analyst

June - August 2016 • Norcross, GA

What I liked

The team that I worked with was outstanding. Management was alwayd as hepful as they could be.

What I wish was different

Honestly, nothing. The experience was great and my summer project tha I was able to pitch to upper management really challenged me!

Advice

Do an internship! It’s not everyday that you can get great experience in your field from people who actually want you to be there learning. Take advantage of the opportunities. I wish I would have done more than just one before my upcoming graduation.

I love the weekly meetings our intern group had to go over our readings and meet with other people in administration. Interacting with the patients was rewarding, as you get to learn why they love coming to MountainView.

Advice

Apply as soon as you can and embrace every opportunity. Talk to as many people as you can: patients, administrations, nurses, etc.

Internal Audit Intern

May - August 2022 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

I had a great experience learning about internal audit and HCA Healthcare over the summer. I worked on sections that full-time staff worked on. I had many responsibilities and led meetings with upper management. The department also had networking events outside the office and volunteer opportunities.

What I wish was different

Sometimes the interns would finish their assigned work early and would have to wait to do other work.

Advice

Make friends on your team and do activities outside the office. Take notes, it will help you and your supervisor on a project.

Administrative Intern

April 2020 • Idaho Falls, ID

What I liked

I honestly believe this internship is an unparalleled opportunity for individuals interested in becoming healthcare leaders. The exposure, trust, and responsibility that was given to each of the interns was incredible. We had access to most areas of the hospital, meaningful projects, scheduled training events, and the ability to shadow/interview any part of the hospital. If you are pursuing a career in healthcare management, you wont find a better undergraduate experience anywhere!

What I wish was different

Advice

You gain from this internship what you put in. Over promise and underdeliver, look for additional ways to help outside of your assigned responsibilities, show your gratitude, and ask lots of questions!
