Getting to see new technology involved in genetics research for rare disease. Also how welcoming the staff was to have an intern.

What I liked
Being able to shadow a nurse to learn about what a typical day for a nurse is, and taking care of the sweet babies!
What I wish was different
Towards the end, if/when they offer you a PCA role, let you shadow a PCA for a day or two so you understand your role
Advice
The best experience ever, I would recommend it to any nursing major

Patient Care Assistant
May - August 2019 • Columbus, OH
What I liked
Was an amazing way to get a pediatric care experience. The hospital was incredibly efficient and the staff went above and beyond to make sure all of the externs were exposed to a lot.
What I wish was different
I wish that we could have done more nursing skills during the externship but I do know that the pediatric population is vulnerable so there are limits based upon credentials.
Advice
Make sure that you take any and every opportunity to learn something new. There will be so many nurses and other health care professionals that are eager to teach so make sure to ask lots of questions and don't be afraid to make yourself known so that you can get the most out of an experience.
