NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

Naloxone Data Intern

June 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really like how attentive, helpful, and friendly the department is! From the very beginning, everyone made me feel welcomed and comfortable. My supervisor, Alex, is great and super understanding and helpful as well!

What I wish was different

I wish that I would’ve been able to complete my summer session in the office instead on remotely due to the pandemic.

Advice

Make connections! Everyone in the department is so knowledgeable and more than open to sharing the knowledge.

Advice

Interning for DOHMH was an invaluable experience. My advice to anyone working for DOHMH is to take full advantage of all experiences ranging from working groups to brown bag lunches. There is no limit to what can be learned.

Race to Justice DFCH Division Action Team Intern

June - August 2018 • Long Island City, NY

What I liked

I had the opportunity to experience what a 9-5 shift is like, I got to experience what it's like to work in a cubicle, I got the chance to see what it's like to work a government job and what a job at the NYC Department of Health entails.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to work on projects that are actually going to help the NYC community. What I mean by this is that I wanted to be more hands on.

Advice

Make the most out of every opportunity and experience . Even if you're not doing what you want, you'll learn something you didn't know before hand.
