Advice

Don't be afraid to dive into any opportunity they give you. They want you to learn about new technologies and software. Volunteer to help with new projects.

Cybersecurity and Privacy Summer Associate

What I liked

I got exposure to real life cyber security practices, bug bounty work, and a lot of independence. Interning for a tech consulting role was valuable because I was able to see the culture of the firm, but also work on site and see the culture of my client, which was a big tech company.

What I wish was different

I had hoped for my software development exposure and I did not get very much. What I did was mostly a project I proposed.

Advice

Great opportunity to develop both soft and technical skills. The company has a lot of really nice perks and they realllly want to give all their interns full time offers.

I loved every minute, and continue to love, my time with PricewaterhouseCoopers. I never thought this career path would be what I would be doing, but through conversations and applying to jobs I was able to land an amazing opportunity. I recommend that people never sell themselves short, as you never know where you may end up.

I wish I had more information about what I would be going into. The entire process leading up to the program was very vague.

Take advantage of the mentors and advisors that you pair up with! My contacts have provided me with so much wisdom, and have continued to help me with my professional journey.

What I liked

Excellent company, lots of resources and investment in their employees, especially interns. Interns were treated very well, and lots of social opportunities were available as well to network with full-time employees as well as other interns.

What I wish was different

More rigorous work, summer is a low time for workload for accounting so there were not a lot of deadlines to be met under pressure.

Advice

Go into the internship with the mindset of networking first. Being a social and curious person will be very beneficial to you in this position.

I liked that I was given the opportunity to intern with different teams throughout my internship to get a broader experience.

I wish that I had more time and also I wish I had scheduled meetings with all the partners at PwC, Rwanda so as to get the most out my internship.

I was allowed to move from team to team because I expressed my need to do so. Therefore, my piece of advice would be to get out one's comfort zone and express his/her needs from the supervisor.

What I liked

What I liked about this internship was that I felt as though I had a similar role to those that were hired as full-time employees. I was never once treated or considered as a lower-ranked employee because I was an intern. Rather, I and the full-time employees were assigned on the same engagements and assignments, with the same expectations for tax returns and corrections. I was able to attend all of the same training and offered the same resources as those that were full-time. If anything, I enjoyed that I completed similar work and learned similar knowledge to that of a full-time employee that if I had accepted the full-time offer, I would have felt prepared for the transition.
