What I liked

Beyond the completion of my projects, I believe that my biggest take away is that everyone can become a leader regardless of who you are or your background. When I first started, I remember feeling insignificant within the company and eventually with dedication and hard work I was able to become more important as the weeks went by. This shows you we can all be leaders if we set our minds to it. For that reason, I feel that out all the experiences and takeaways this is the biggest one for me. For that reason, I believe that this is a wonderful opportunity if you want to learn how to be successful in today’s business environment.

What I liked

Very helpful team leads, experienced and assigned out tasks according to interns preferences. Lots of opportunities to meet other interns, and hash out concerns or questions about projects

What I wish was different

Wish there had been more coding-oriented projects, projects were mostly web-related and not programming heavy.

Advice

Get connected with other interns, especially team leads since they are also your fellow interns. They often have valuable and helpful info and are always willing to meet with you outside of meetings and help out. Learn how to adapt and be productive when you are stuck on a project and waiting for assistance, take advantages of the training opportunities.

Video Editing and Content Intern

What I liked

Working as a Video Intern at Sports Media Inc was an amazing experience. I had a place to learn and grow in my craft, and had people that would constantly give me feedback on my work. The work environment was great and I really enjoyed my time with the company. They are also very understanding about your school and work schedule which was very important to me as I worked for my university and was a full time student while doing my internship.

What I wish was different

I don’t would have loved to learn more about my craft and have someone that teaches me techniques and tools of the trade. So if there could be someone that teaches video interns I feel that could be beneficial.

Advice

Be sure to set a clear line of communication with your team so everyone is able to be on the same page.

What I liked

Working for Sports Media Inc. I enjoyed working for the sports brand agency. I enjoyed the opportunity to work for Sports Media Inc. by providing insight to influence people to come work for the company and to influence people about the importance of helping out all clients associated with the agency. I enjoyed in sharing the agencies skills and creativity and guide them to the process to explain what the strategical business aspect Sports Media Inc. focuses on.

What I wish was different

I would say that I wish had been different, would be guiding and helping to explain to interns about a project that they are assigned to because an intern would not understand and would be confused about what they are assigned to do.

Advice

The one piece of advice I would share about my experience working as an intern for Sports Media Inc. I would say to always ask questions. If you are confused about a task your assigned to, Mr. Kost is helpful, and he will explain what tasks should be done.

Data Analytics Intern

What I liked

The internship was well-organized, separating the different departments by Slack channels but making it so that we were comfortable interacting with other interns. The training and daily tasks were clear and doable, and the weekly meetings definitely helped when receiving feedback and new tasks, as well as getting a little insight of what the other interns were doing. Even when confused about a project, I had no worries of looking uncapable. Instead, I was given ample opportunity to learn how to ask questions while working on projects. One thing I really appreciated about this internship was that everyone was really flexible especially with the duration occurring during school. This allowed me to be productive outside of the internship rather than expending so much energy into a project and becoming burnt out.

What I wish was different

Being an unpaid internship, I think one thing that could be improved would be easing the new interns into a project. In my case, this was my first internship and I didn't know what to expect from projects, especially when there was only one other data analyst. Although the general training was easy to understand and navigate, I still felt a little lost because I didn't really have specific data analyst training. I didn't know what skills were needed for the first project, or what exactly was expected as a result of the project.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Mr. Kost and any interns you work with are happy to clarify when instructions are confusing, and they aren't hard to work with. It's a great first internship, especially when you're inexperienced. If you get overwhelmed, just take a step back and take a small breather to clear your head. The internship isn't demanding so don't worry about extremely high expectations.
