Project Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Riverton, UT

What I liked

I enjoyed the environment. You work with a lot of really good people that are just doing their best, and that is rewarding.

What I wish was different

I wish that the training was more formalized. A lot of what I did was on the fly, things that I just came up with to learn.

Advice

Be a self starter - they aren't looking for someone to teach every second, they want you to own projects and make the most of your circumstances.

Material Handler

June - August 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the workplace. Everyone was very kind, and as members of the church, there was no smoking, drinking, or foul language at the workplace. There were also weekly devotionals which were great to have!

I loved getting to serve a church service mission doing technical theatre! I was able to use the skills I'm developing in college to serve the Lord. Not only did I learn more about the Gospel and my relationship with Christ, but I also learned more about technical theatre fields of lighting and sound.

Security Analyst

May - September 2019 • Riverton, UT

What I liked

It was really awesome job experience. They provided a lot of training one on one with senior analysts. I got to see a lot of different career opportunities and I got to network with a lot of professionals in the field. Also since it's a 24/7 facility, I worked three 12 hour shifts a week. That means I got four days off every week. They also offered really great health insurance. The social atmosphere at the church is really amazing and everyone is willing to help.

What I wish was different

It was kinda far from Provo to Riverton but my shift helped me to travel outside of traffic hours. Also since I worked 3 days a week it wasn't bad because I wasn't driving up every day.

Advice

Be prepared to learn a lot, it can be overwhelming at first but after a few weeks you get the hang of the daily routine and you have opportunities to expand your knowledge as much as you're welling to put the work into attaining.

Quality assurance

August 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

Working hours are flexible Get in contact with mandarin speakers

What I wish was different

I really have no complain, if there is something, I would say I want the contract duration to be shorter.

Advice

I want to share my job seeking experience. I started looking for a job before coming since I've already known job seeking takes more time for international students. I got my handshake account in January, and started to apply for jobs. (3 months before I came in) and had friends who worked in career service center who introduced me to school jobs. He would take me to see the employers and introduced me. I had my resume and cover letter ready. I didn't get a job until the end of July. I want to tell people even though I didn't get my job through handshake, but the career service center helped me a lot in getting this offer. (and the activities on handshake helped a lot too)
