Putting in time to research and then applying what you learned to your task will help a lot, especially on new skills you don't know yet.

Business Support Intern

May - August 2019 • Saline, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed having my first experience with a 40 hour work week be at Thomson Reuters. They have great employees and my coworkers were amazing. There was also a great group of people I could ask for help if I needed to. I enjoyed having my own desk and responsibilities that were the same as full-time employees because then it felt like I was a full-time and not just an intern.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have gotten to experience other departments at Thomson Reuters other than the Business Support sector. I feel that it would have been enlightening to see how other departments do things because they are all connected in the overall picture.

Advice

Make the most of it. Put 100 percent effort into everything and always do your best, it will pay off in the end.

Intern - Propositions

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I had an amazing experience interning in NYC. Reuters offered many opportunities to expand my network and explore possible career opportunities. I was encouraged to speak to as many employees as possible about their positions and discover which I was interested in. I was engaged in several projects that helped me develop my business skills and professional identity.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more projects to work on during my time. My projects were continuous throughout the summer so I had to create my own deliverables to show my manager that I was engaged and proactive.

Advice

Find a mentor early on and work with them throughout the summer to gain valuable insight to career paths and receive constructive criticism continuously rather than just at the end. Work to improve on whatever they suggest as often as possible. Most importantly, Reuters values business news. Make sure you are up to date on Reuters' press releases and general current events at all times and use this as a way to get to know your colleagues. Everyone is extremely well-versed in all things news.
