Logistics Intern

May 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

Getting exposure to the different business units and departments within the company. You get to see the company as a whole and the different components that help make it run instead of getting hired for one area and possibly getting boxed in to that one specific field. What if you find that you end up not liking the department you were hired for? This set up gives you the opportunity to see what's available.

What I wish was different

More "everyday tasks" given to work on instead of just the summer long project.

Advice

What you put into your internship is what you get. Many times I didn't have anything to do from my direct supervisor but I would go around asking several managers in my business unit if there was anything I could do for them. Towards the beginning, most would tell me no but over time I would get some assignments or side projects to work on. Once those were done I would repeat the process until I found meaningful work to do. Several other interns would tell me they would sit around their desk bored if their supervisor didn't have anything for them to do. You can have more than 1 mentor, especially if your original one is super busy with meetings. So my biggest advice is to simply ask around for work. I'm thankful for the accounting manager I met over the summer, she's the main reason why I wasn't bored out of my mind during my internship.

Financial Planning and Analysis Intern

May - August 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

The culture of this company is incredible. From the time I stepped in, to the time I left everybody was extremely welcoming and helpful in all aspects. I got to work on many meaningful projects as well.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have immersed myself more into the day-to-day aspects of the job instead of working on an intern project at the end of the internship.

Advice

Be ready for challenging work, and to be able to take on your own projects as well as helping the team work on their big projects.
