Provider Relations Intern – Policy & Operations Intern

Position Summary:

The Provider Relations Intern will support the Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) in advancing initiatives that promote educational stability for youth in foster care, ensure provider compliance with contracts, and assist in policy research and special projects. This internship is ideal for students or emerging professionals interested in public policy, social work, child welfare, education, and government operations.

Interns will have exposure to cross-functional work, helping to shape and implement programs that improve outcomes for children and families in Allegheny County. The role is hands-on, project-based, and provides insight into real-world county operations, contract oversight, and interagency collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Special Projects and Strategic Support

· Assist with planning and execution of strategic initiatives led by the Provider Relations and Education Stability teams.

· Support process improvements and documentation related to provider performance and program compliance.

· Track deliverables and deadlines for special projects, providing regular status updates to the supervisor.

Policy and Contract Monitoring

· Assist in researching, analyzing, and summarizing local and state policies affecting child welfare and education stability.

· Support the development and revision of internal policies and procedures.

· Help monitor provider contracts for compliance, reporting, and performance metrics.

Education Stability Support

· Aid in maintaining up-to-date education records and data for school-aged youth in care.

· Assist in preparing for and documenting Best Interest Determination (BID) meetings.

· Track school placement information, special education needs, and communication between stakeholders.

Data Management and Communication

· Update and maintain spreadsheets and internal databases related to education and provider services.

· Take notes during meetings and enter them into internal systems (e.g., SharePoint, Education Stability Database).

· Draft reports, summaries, and communication materials to support transparency and information-sharing across departments.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in public policy, Social Work, Education, Public Administration, or a related field.

· Interest in child welfare, education rights, and public service.

· Strong research, writing, and communication skills.

· High attention to detail and organizational ability.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with SharePoint and data systems preferred.

· Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

 

Requirements:

· Act 33, 34, and FBI clearances (required upon offer).

· Access to reliable transportation may be needed for local events or training.
