The elementary school teacher, under moderate supervision, performs instructional work with limited decision-making discretion, providing leadership in the Montessori educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students. The teacher supervises, monitors, and evaluates students while developing lesson plans to ensure all student needs are met. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal. 

Montessori Teaching Requirements: 

Bachelor’s Degree w/State Teaching certification

If enrolled in a Teaching Residency program, State certification and Montessori Certification can be completed simultaneously while in a teaching position 

Montessori Certification is required at one of the following levels:

Early childhood/Primary (PreK - K) 

Elementary I (Lower) (Grades 1 - 3) 

and/or Elementary II (Upper) (Grades 4 - 6 ) 

This training is rigorous and consists of many hours of coursework for a two year period and covers assessments, classroom application, and portfolios of teacher work.  CMS is committed to a Montessori model with fidelity, and we consistently work towards 100% full Montessori training certification for our Montessori classroom teachers working in public Montessori Magnet Schools.
