Early Literacy Tutor (AmeriCorps Member)

AmeriCorps K–2 Literacy Tutor | Virginia Learns

Are you ready to make a significant impact while advancing your career? Virginia Learns is recruiting AmeriCorps members to serve as K–2 Literacy Tutors in Richmond Public Schools for the 2025–26 school year. Be a part of a movement dedicated to transforming education and ensuring young students become confident readers.

As a tutor, you'll deliver high-impact reading instruction to K–2 students, directly contributing to their academic success. We are committed to your professional growth, offering:

  • Extensive training from the renowned University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI)
  • Ongoing coaching and support
  • A free High-Impact Tutoring certificate from Arizona State University

In addition to invaluable experience, members receive a living stipend of $17,000–$23,000 (depending on part-time or three-quarter-time status) and a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of up to $5,700 upon successful completion of service. This is an ideal opportunity for recent graduates or those exploring a career in education to gain hands-on experience and valuable credentials.

Tutors will be expected to provide literacy support Monday-Friday from approximately 8 AM to 2 PM daily. Final schedules will be determined closer to the start of school. 
 

Please note: Eligible candidates must be at least 17 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident. Additionally, all AmeriCorps members must pass a national criminal history background check.
