Job Summary
The Workhouse Art Center is seeking a dedicated Glass Studio Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of the glass studio. The ideal candidate will manage the classroom and facility needs, as well as take responsibility for growing the Try-Me Glass and Open Studio programs. This role requires strong organizational skills and a thorough understanding of glass studio infrastructure, and knowledge of annealing schedules and flame working studio safety procedures. The manager will ensure that all work from Try-Me classes is properly fired and labeled for student pick-up, while also handling studio rental fees and material sales. This position reports to the Director of Glass and Ceramics.
Role and Responsibilities:
• Studio Operations
o Manage daily operations of the glass studio, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning.
o Oversee flame working, fusing and casting classroom facility needs for all glass courses and workshops.
o Ensure all work from Try-Me Glass classes is fired, labeled, and ready for student pick-up.
o Collect fees for studio rental time and materials.
• Program Development
o Grow and enhance the Try-Me Glass and Open Studio programs.
o Work closely with instructors to provide an excellent educational experience.
o Foster a creative and inclusive studio environment that encourages artist development.
• Inventory Management
o Conduct quarterly inventory of glass stock, tools, and equipment.
o Report order needs to the Director of Glass and Ceramics in a timely manner.
o Ensure the studio remains well-stocked with essential materials.
• Administrative Responsibilities
o Manage studio rent time, including booking and collecting fees.
o Maintain accurate records of studio usage and rental times.
o Assist with budget tracking and material cost management.
o Order and maintain inventory within budget.
• Qualifications, Experience, and Education Requirements:
o 3-5 years of professional experience in glass arts or a terminal degree in studio glass
o Comprehensive knowledge of glass studio infrastructure, including kilns, tools, and safety procedures.
o Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
o Ability to communicate clearly and constructively with students, instructors, and staff.
o Proven experience managing studio programs and fostering artist development.
o Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
Compensation/Benefits:
- Full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. $38,000 - 42,000
